They’re wasted on someone like me. I got to play with pvs-7s when I was in so that was the minimum that I wanted to get. Glad I didn’t sink more money into them. Even after buying a good helmet I just lost interest in the whole thing. I can go outside and watch critters in the yard or spook around on public land like a weirdo. Although they do really reveal the night sky if stargazing is of any interest to you. My wife thinks they’re retarded because you can’t see through walls with them and they don’t do anything a flashlight won’t do. Unless you need to passively watch something at night or you have a place to shoot at night I would recommend a hard pass. I’m hoping that maybe attaching them to a telescope will make them worth it someday. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Bought a new dodge truck (SST) in 98..
Biggest peice of shit I ever owned!!! Never again will I buy another fucking Chrysler pile of garbage. They build trash, have always built trash, and will continue to build trash. Only reason I bought it was I had just gotten married was young, dumb, and couldn't afford what I wanted (a new F150). |

Never bought anything that I regretted buying. I've done well financially partially because of having good financial habits and living below my means.

Man, I don’t get the NV stuff. But then again, I have a place to shoot and animals to kill.
I guess they would suck if you lived in town and didn’t find a place to shoot. Only so much fun you can have in the back yard. I still LOVE night shooting. I guess dumb gun purchases? Nothing really sticks out to me. I’m pretty cautious with my purchases (other than NV) and wife is frugal. |

Toss up between a few. Bought an 1978 Blazer and put a shit ton of money into that for off road purposes. That thing was a piece of crap but when it worked it was super fun. I was never even able to get it road legal in CA at the time. That didn't stop me from driving it with the top off everywhere possible. I didn't even have plates on it. I look back at that time and particular vehicle and wonder how in the world i don't have an extensive criminal record. How i never got pulled over still amazes me to this day. That was probably in the late 90's or early 00's. I also spent a shit ton of money on computer hardware and cooling equipment to "benchmark" with back in the day. Set a lot of records at the time but holy fuck what a waste of money in hind sight. That was probably the stupidest thing i spent money on, but it didn't seem like it at the time. View Quote |

I bought an imported German Sig 226 LDC2. Can't change the rear sight, changed the front sight to a dawson but the adjustable rear didn't have enough adjustment so it shoots low. Bought a holster from some european maker but it wasn't good and the gun would stick in it on the draw. Of course before I ever shot it I spent even more money getting the action worked over by a gunsmith.

At 19, still in College, just got NAUI open water license. I was very happy about it, always wanted to become a SCUBA diver- (actually drowned once in a pool and lifeguard was to busy talking to a girl while I was drowning). Anyway thought I would be doing more diving, so worked my butt off in one summer- enough to buy all the dive gears: BC, regulator, etc. Last year moved old stuff out from basement before house being sold, noticed $1000 or so of dive gears I only used TWICE- ended up giving them away.....
The only good thing out of the above experience is, I became a very good swimmer. Knowing how to relax in water and float for an hour with just hands and legs is priceless. Plus I found 1000 rds of 308 ammo by Hertenberge still in battle packs , in an old beat up box. Receipt from Century showed Price paid .$15/ round and free shipping. |

It’s interesting how many people said night vision. Is the reason why, because you live in a city?

A really nice fifth-wheel camper...sat parked in the yard all but maybe two weekends a year...I even threw in $2k extra towards the payoff for the buyer when I sold it. So, otherwords, sold it for $2K less than what my payoff was...finally...let's not discuss the Ram 2500 diesel that I bought along with it.

Really confusin me here. Thermal is good, but if your looking to actually move around, drive the jeep/gator at 50mph, you kind of need nv. I’ve played with some pretty pricy thermal stuff. While it’s cool if static, that’s pretty boring to me. Pvs/breach combo is nice though. |

View Quote If you do a lot of travel at night where you need to travel with light discipline then they may be useful, but at least honestly evaluate your needs. If you aren't walking around a lot right now in the dark, you probably won't do it with NV. Especially if you have no reason to and are only doing it so you legitimize your purchase. A good powerful LED flashlight is more useful at night if you don't need to be dark. |

2011 Ford Fusion. I should have kept my truck, but at the time I was spending close to $100 a week on fuel.
Why are so many of you saying house? Old house or new house? Needed to sell after the housing crash? Would it of been more cost effective for you to rent the entire time you liven in that house? |

Quoted: Perfect reason to get binos my friend!! View Quote It can be useful, but not for the cost, for me. Thermal serves me much better for my uses. I can use it to see through the brush. I've done extensive cost benefit analysis of thermal vs NV. I really want to say NV would suit me better, but I realize that I would grab the thermal 90% of the time and the NV would be relegated to very few uses. ETA: the backstory of catching the trespassers was a good example. We found them because we were glassing for coyotes, and saw a weird thermal signature partially behind a treeline about 300 yards away, parked by the road, but concealed from view. Focused in on it a bit and saw it was a car - we were seeing the hot hood and heat from the exhaust. We moved over closer to it and checked the neighbors farms and saw 3 thermal signatures moving across the hayfield towards the farmhouse and outbuildings. We called the neighbor and headed over to support him while watching the trespassers. We rounded them up by surprise between his barn and house. Cops showed up about 30 minutes later (they were called when we first notified the neighbor) and one of the dudes had a few warrants. |

<< That one. Colt Python for $900. Hated it so much I sold it for $1900 two weeks ago and bought a PTR 9C
Seriously though, I was afraid to touch it or go shooting with it because the finish was so damned beautiful. I passed it on for someone else to fondle it for a few years. |
