What tool do you use to open letters and packages? Fixed blade knife, folding pocket knife, the thin and long letter opener you can get at staples?

I generally just rip letters open and pull packing tape off of packages, but for recalcitrant ones I'll use whatever bayonet I have handy, usually an M4.

I use my switchblade knife. Same as I use when I lean up against a post and clean my fingernails.

Pointer finger for envelopes.
Whatever pokey thing is laying on the kitchen table for boxes/ Amazon envelopes. |
|
Fingers for letters. Rip a corner and then the side open.
Pocket knife or keys to break the tape on packages. Without a knife you can also punch the side of the box under where the flaps meet and that will separate the tape, then can bare hand rip the flaps apart from the tape along their length. |

I’m a Man. I rip paper, tape and cardboard with my bare hands!

Crappy Boker AK47 auto - it is relegated to general kitchen/utility use only. Even then it still sucks.

Envelope: Tear the end of the flap on the short end. Tear the rest of the short end. Done.
Packages with paper tape: punch. Packages with regular tape: car key, etc. |

It would also help to wear gloves to keep the paper from drying out your hands. |

I have a regular letter opener and folding knife for such activities.

Whatever knife is closest. I like using the awl on my Vic Pioneer to cut tape, keeps the residue off the knife blade.

Quoted: Pocket knife. View Quote This. One time my old army buddy thought it would be hilarious to mail a bunch of his beard hair and pubes to some of our old squad. I used my knife and just shook my head knowing this dudes a nut My friend however just opened it...with his teeth. Yeah, I get a call a bit later with him bitching in his heavy southern accent, "that's the last god damn time I ever open a letter with my teeth!!" |

I have a couple old letter openers I found in my grandparents' stuff, one from Curly Lambeau's brother's supply yard or something like that and one from some old oil company. Those or a pocket knife.
