Is 4 too young? What if I bring a cel phone to the bar?
|
|
I had 2 older sisters who loved making “baby sitting” money.....I was never alone until about 12 or 13. My mom was pretty smart.

I was probably around ten, but I don't remember exactly. My kids are 7 and eleven, we leave them for short periods of time when necessary. They're good kids and haven't had any issues so far. We leave one of our cell phones for them if they have a problem, and we call to check in. When they get older I'll probably have them txt me a time stamped pic to show they are where they are supposed to be.

I am not sure. I made refried beans on the electric stove. Realized that High was too hot.
Ended up making bologna and cheese cups in the microwave. |

Can’t recall the exact age but I was a “Latch Key” kid in elementary school in the ‘70’s.

When we went to the grand canyon.
My dad and mom, Mr. & Mrs. Nunnemaker were terrible parents. |

I was 11, dad left, mom died......
Oh wait you mean alone like for an evening. Sorry. |

They sound old enough to go to the bar with you. Just remember children are like pregnant women and should only drink light beer.

I walked home to an empty house every day after school from 1st or 2nd grade onward. Dad was gone all week and mom worked second shift. My little brother got dropped off at my grandparents house on her way to work and my older sister was usually off being a whore somewhere.

I think mom n dad had had enough by then because they just said dont die and off we went |

6 and home alone during business hours all summer long while my mother was working.

That sounds like the begging of "inviting the man" into one's life. Also, I bet they used to just leave the kid in the car.

My first crush was my babysitter, she let me drink an entire bottle of Nehi and watch CHiPs

I think I was 8 when my Mom left me for entire days and nights, going into a full week. On the positive side, I learned about cooking for myself, the value of money and the concept of time management. Started working 20 hours a week and by the time I was a senior in high school I worked 30 to 40 hours a week doing night shifts and weekends

Was told by some lady (who I think had CPS dealings to have known) that their rule of thumb is as long as the kid can make something to eat and call 911 then they were good to go.
Maybe setup an Alexa to call the police and a dog bowl? |

I leave my 8 and 6 year old home if I have to run to the store. And I let them run around town on their bikes with their friends
I got them a watch phone that they only receive calls from myself and my wife. |

When I was a kid there was no age you could leave me home alone...or just about anywhere else for that matter.
As an example, I was left alone in my Dad's car one time and I managed to get it out of gear and hit another car. I think I was about 5 at the time. Another time I was left alone at home, I think I was about 7, and I put Mom's bowling ball in the oven and set it to Broil. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. |

My Mom kicked me out of the only home I had ever known at birth.

It was when I was in the 3rd grade when I was left at home alone. Both of my parents worked in Nashville which was about 20 miles away.
Then the following year after I proved I was responsible enough they left my younger sister and brother at home with me. That was 40 something years ago. |

I remember being about five. Dad was gone looking at cores, and my mom had to go kick on pumps at the lease. We were expecting a call from a broker so my mom left me at home to answer the phone and tell him “We are topping tank, and are not moving until $19.10 a barrel.” My mom wrote it down. I’m not sure why, I couldn’t read it. But I had the line down and still remember it. We held until $21.50 and sold the entire battery. I got a bike that Christmas.

It isn't a law, if there is a report of a child left alone, under 12 it will get investigated. Happened to two people I know.

I think the second degree burns from a pile of FFFg black powder sealed my being left alone fate till I joined the Army.......

Pretty early, I was a latch key kid. Walked too and from school in Elementary, or rode my bike. When I got home, my parents were still at work.

I wanna say I was in 1st grade when I started walking home from school and staying at the house until my parents got home from work.
Our son is about to be 10 and I can't wait until he starts staying home by himself, daycare is fucking ridiculous. |
