Funny enough, they would probably have a niche in a dog only world.

Them and small terriers.

What breed or breeds excel and become the rulers of this new, fury world?

What breed or breeds can't compete and die out?
Terriers would inherit the earth.

Thing is there wouldn’t be one breed ruing the others. They’d all pack together.

Go to any third world country.  All the dogs look the same.  They are relatively small, maybe 30 lbs or so and they are all tan/brown.

This is what happens when you leave dogs alone.  They interbreed and end up with the most efficient body type for survival.

I see it more as an averaging of the dog breeds.

I do know that pitbulls are waiting at and moment to snap with their lock jaws. As a matter of fact, that will probably also be the end of humans as we know it.

German Shepherds and Chihuahuas.

As posted earlier, after several generations they would end up looking like Dingos or Carolina Dogs.  Interestingly, one type that would remain close to what they are now would be trained sheep dogs.  Raised with the flock they would most likely  continue to keep other dogs away, avoid most interbreeding and likely continue to raise their puppies to do the same.

I'm not an expert but that was covered on an episode of Life After People and biologists seem to think that's the way it will be.

Thanks, he's a giant baby.

The only way he would survive the apocalypse is if he was somehow magically above the Taiga Belt when it happened.  His coat is so thick and heavy that he over heats very quickly in warm weather.

Then again I've watched him catch and swallow rabbits whole so he has some chance at survival.

Without us breeding them natural selection will take over. In 10 years the ultimate survivor dog breed will be created and there is no telling what it would look like.

Different climates will have different superior breeds.

Probably start looking like wolves again.

Jewelers, Aussies, and border collies are all the right size, and are incredibly athletic and intelligent.
Plus they haven’t been bred to have hip problems (German Shepard’s)

The Heinz 57 will be the rulers.

All the pure breeds will dye off cause of genetic defects.

Also dags DGAFWTF so they won't be fighting to keep the breeds pure anyway.

It's a good thing you keep him safely locked away in that hamster ball. For our protection of course.
