Ranch Hand is the standard heavy guard in Texas. Pretty is for girly boys. The guards work on 1/2 ton frames. I think you might want a 3/4 ton or larger for their bumper and guard designs.
Trail Ready and Road Armor also make some good stuff. As said above, half ton girly-trucks need not apply.
Tag. I'm looking for something I can add a winch to for my f-150.
I have the ranch hand grill guard as standard equipment here, if you are going to really do it, get the full front replacement. It has actual structural qualities as opposed to the grill guard which is sturdy but not heavy enough to plow a deer at 60 mph. Looks good though.
Personally I think Ranch Hands look like shit. They look like they belong on a 1972 Dodge Power wagon. There are much more streamlined designs available.
I need one for my 98 dodge ram, I feel like tailgaiting small cars on the way to work for some reason.
It's going on a one ton diesel... no girly bumpers are wanted

I stopped installing them on my truck when I stopped drinking and driving.

ARB makes a damn nice bumper. They are kind of the gold standard that others are judge by around the world.

And great choice of vehicle for head on. I had a full sized Durango go head on with my Excursion (Border Patrol) on an intentional ram. My Excursion won. BTW, another vote for the ARB, but now I will look at Road Armor. IMHO, the "bad" and "sick" looking bumpers which sell for around $350 are exactly just that; "sick" and "bad" LOOKING shit made in China which will probably dent with hitting a sparrow going down the interstate. |

Serious question, what happens to your airbags ability to sense when to "go off" in an accident with those on the front of your truck? I want one bad, but my family is recovering from one bad car accident for the last 14 months (mostly my wife), and I want to make sure the airbags can still go off in an accident as necessary. Thanks. |

Mine even incorporates the Sonar parking assist sensors. View Quote how do you like those LED's? I'm running a Ranch Hand Legend.. Its darned nice having the ability to put a trailer hitch on the front end for tight spots... Or a bike rack up front when I have my camper on the back.. Battle ready, prior to swapping out the front bumper.. |

Had a Ranch hand Legend on a 2008 Duramax for around 3 years. It did what it was designed to do as far as deflecting wild critters. The welds on mine were OK but the powder coat was complete crap. It was flaking and falling apart within 12 months of owning it. Ended up having it sandblasted and Rhino lined which worked really well. Also had two ARB bumpers. One on a 2006 Duramax and another on a FJ80 Landcruiser. Pretty much a night and day difference between the RH and ARB. Everything about the ARB screamed quality. If both brands were sitting in front of you, the ARB would look like it was designed and built by NASA where the RH looks like it was built by a high school shops class.

Not quite as bright as the Rigids, but I think the price trade-off is justifiable. |

Road Armor has a bunch of pics of wrecks involving their bumpers. I suspect that is real. |

FWIW, that Exp1 I posted about is no decoration. It's probably built better than an ARB, and it includes bolt on reinforcements for the frame horns. The welds are top notch, and it's all 1/4" or 3/16" structured steel.
They make one with the upper hoops to protect the top of your grille as well. One of these days somebody in a civic is going to brake check me and I'm going to drive straight on through them. |

We talking about "Mad Max" best, or "Look at me --- I'm a ON-road 4x4 Pussy Pimp" best?? |

I have a Quarter Turn grill guard on my truck.
I wanted the extra strength they off over just the round ones. |

I have a body amor on the front of my jeep JK weights about 300# with the winch

ARB and TJM. The Aussies know more about smashing into kangaroos than we ever will.
My ARB has killed a mustang, a Kia, and a huge rock. I only had to touch up the paint from the rock. |

Been looking for a while myself, and it depends on what "look" you want. I prefer the looks of Iron Bull Bumpers, I like the quality of Road Armor, but if we're talking economy, I say Road Rhino weld it yourself kits. Lots of options in lots of price ranges out their, but just because its costs a shit ton of money doesn't mean it is worth it. ARB is top quality too, but i'm just not a fan of their aesthetics on anything other than Toys, Jeeps, and Rovers. Too boxy for my tastes.

Road Armor is awesome. Holy crap are they heavy though, nearly 300#'s. Get ready to lose around 3-4 mpg's if you are slapping one on w/ a 100# winch on a gasser. http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m608/archtaan/Trucks/Excursion/2012-06-20_16-54-45_327.jpg http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m608/archtaan/Trucks/Excursion/Pixelgarde/2010%20Conversion/photobucket-6955-1337792549619.jpg View Quote This is an example of use 327 for ammo cans. |
