ETA: Rules and Considerations
1) It can't be something that GD doesn't hate hating. The triple negative gets you right back to hating. 2) There are bomb throwers everywhere. Ignore posts and commentary by Obvious_Trolls to the greatest extent possible. The thread on Montreal Steak seasoning got me thinking. This is a popular forum, I understand, and with lots of relatively vocal people it's easy to find people who disagree on nearly any topic. Just the Law of Large Numbers in action as uniformity of thought is contrary to human nature. But I was wondering, what does GD agree on - positively - more than anything else? I don't know. Other than really obvious things, like the SR-71 being awesome, I don't know what comes closest to being a positive "consensus" on this site. It has to be something specific, and it has to be positive. Hating things is easy, whether it is warranted (ATF) or not (most everything else). Top Gun: Maverick? It doesn't seem like anybody hates it. Some have complaints, but the overwhelming majority ranges from good to great. Medium rare steak? I like mine basically raw, but most people seem to appreciate a good steak and will just say "too undercooked for me" while still appreciating it. Nobody who likes it rare would turn down a medium rare steak, and most medium people would eat it too. Above that doesn't count because they aren't people anyway. Bourbon? I don't recall anybody saying bourbon is worthy of hate. The more general you get (i.e. movies, instead of a specific one) the easier it is to find consensus. I just wonder what's the most specific thing GD comes close to agreeing on. This isn't necessarily unique to us, as probably any shared interest group would be the same way. ETA: Candidates can be added here. Night vision S&W 686 / Colt Python Kyle Rittenhouse / Gary Plauche Bacon (Honestly, this is an SR-71 situation.) Whiskey Red Dawn (1984) Yoga pants on non-fatties (SR-71) |

If we can't get any more specific than bobs/vagene and guns, we really are a disagreeable lot.

Our own opinion, other that that somebody here will hate it, no matter what it is.

I was thinking something like this or the Python. But I distinctly remember a lot of people complaining about Pythons. I've owned 2 686's, 3 681's (same thing, but no rear sight, just a grooved top strap) and shot 6-8 different 686-681's of OPPs, and everyone was just, I dunno, naturally comfortable. Shooting a 4" 686 with Houge grips feels as natural as shaking your dad's hand. The old 3 screw Rugers are right up there too |

Not long after I washed up here, John_Wayne777 opined that GD was powered by hate. In the thirteen intervening years, I’ve seen nothing that caused me to doubt the veracity of that statement.
Personally, I hate the homophonically challenged, in particular, those the confuse “rein” and “reign”. I hope they all die - screaming and soon. |

Quoted: I was thinking something like this or the Python. But I distinctly remember a lot of people complaining about Pythons. View Quote They have relatively speaking fragile lockwork, to the point that back in the day people used to take the barrel off of Pythons and put them on S&W frames to have a more reliable revolver. It's also not super easy to find a smith that can work on them. The new ones have simplified lockwork and are not the same. Eta: All of that aside a Python in Royal Blue is a jewel of a gun that is borderline more mechanical art than tool. |
