I remember Ground Round in Davenport Iowa where I grew up.
Don't think I ever ate there.

We hung out at the Ground Round in Dubuque in ‘86 when I was flying up there. It was one of the best places to eat in DBQ.

I know, not saying much.

I recall both. The Ground Round near me turned into a Red Lobster.

My old man nearly got in a fistfight with a Derby manager, after they served me a kids meal fried chicken plate that had way undercooked chicken and refused to fix it. This was like 35 years ago.

There was another place we ate at, had a spinning fork as part of their signage. Can't remember the name, might've been too local.

Others, Roy Rogers, Rax, Ponderosa, Golden Corral before it became just an all-you-can eat.

My cousin managed a Lum’s in Madison, WI in 68-69 when he was getting his MBA.

He used drink beer and bang the waitresses after closing.

Awesome milkshakes at the one near my house growing up. In May, a lot of the Indy 500 drivers would be having breakfast there. Awesome autograph hunting for 6 year old me.

Roy Rogers, Perkins, Aurthur Treachers, burger chef, and there was another fish and chips place that used fake newspaper to put the fish in that I cannot remember right now but they gave you malt vinegar with the fish.

The Ground Round in Grand Forks ND, is alive and well. When I was in high school, they had a “wing bar” for happy hour starting at 9pm to close. My god, my friends and I destroyed it.

Ground Round after bowling as a kid (same parking lot). Peanut shells tossed onto the floor.

Howard Johnsons once a month or so after football for all you can eat fried clam strips.

I remember tossing peanut shells on the floor at the Ground Round.  One of my friends worked as a waiter at one in college.  I also remember you could get ice cream in a novelty baseball helmet.

I remember the original Wilshire Blvd. Brown Derby.
Ate at the Hollywood BD, and at the BD themed restaurant in Disney World.

Never been to a Ground Round.

I HAVE been to Sambo’s though… good restaurant IMHO.

How about The Lazy ' R in Wichita, Kansas?

Sambo's I worked as a short order cook for a few months out of high school.

Shakey's Pizza is my all time favorite.  Loved the large pieces of italian sausage.

Grandparents loved that place as did I as a kid. All you could eat shrimp and the the thick toast.
Sadly my grandmother had a stroke and was paralyzed on her left side and had to go to into a nursing home. With my grandmother gone it left my grandfather to fend for himself as he did not know how to cook. The only thing he could do was boil water for his three cups of tea each day and for his oatmeal in the morning during winter. Well he decided it would be the Sizzler every afternoon for dinner on his way home from visiting his wife in the nursing home. My grandfather did this for years before deciding TV dinners made life easier.

I ate a bunch of Ground Round when snowed in at Bangor ME, 1996.  Was pretty good when someone else was paying for it.  Didn't know they were gone.

Who remembers Burger Queen?  Became Druther's, then nothing.

Shakeys was awesome, pizza buffets and video games.
Big Boy also and this is probably more local was Cock Robin a hamburger and ice cream place.
I guess this brings me to some other places I miss: Service Merchandise and McDades, Montgomery Ward and Woolworths.

Me and the wife were talking about this the other night since we were forced to go to Olive Garden for a thing. She said when she was a kid she thought Olive Garden was the best place in the world. Now it is just gross. We started naming off restaurants we use to go to as a kid that are now are either long gone or gross that we thought were awesome back then.

The Black Eye Pea, Chi-Chi’s, Bennigan's, Official All Star Café, Don Pablo's, Kenny Rogers Roasters, Lone Star Steakhouse, Rio Bravo. It’s interesting how many chains are now defunct or very small versions of themselves.

There was a black eyed pea in Colorado springs, I don't know if it's still open or not. Tulsa had a don Pablo's but it went out of business, also a lone Star steakhouse. I tried to eat there once and I never saw  a server.
