too bad they weren't better bad ass warriors, they could have won. |

Other than current SF, I'd say the Polish Winged Hussars. Check their record against all comers and it was amazing.

I don't know what it is about them but they seem to pack a hell of a lot of badass into a little bitty dude. I wouldn't want to fight one, much less a whole force of them. I'm glad they are on our side. |

was going to post this as well

You left out the Roman legionaries. Easily one of the top most professional, accomplished and badass militaries the world has ever seen.

Well, they fought an enemy twice as numerous and much better supplied while managing to take 1/3 fewer KIAs and and about half as many wounded. That said - I don't think they qualify as the "most badass warriors in history", not by a long shot. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Confederate soldier too bad they weren't better bad ass warriors, they could have won. That said - I don't think they qualify as the "most badass warriors in history", not by a long shot. Union combat deaths: 110,100 Confederate combat deaths: 94,000 So, the Confederates suffered 14.6% fewer KIAs. Union combat wounded: 275,174 Confederate combat wounded: 194,026 29.5% fewer combat wounded. It is important to note however that the North was on the offensive 90% of the conflict - in many cases attacking well entrenched Confederates with good interior lines. Not to mention, in the South's home territory. When the Confederate army went on the offensive in the summer of 1863 (in the North's home territory), the Army of Northern Virginia suffered 24% more KIAs than the Army of the Potomac at Gettysburg. For the record, I'm not discounting Confederate bravery or skill in battle, but the difference in KIAs and WIAs are primarily due to the fact that (as mentioned above) the Union army was on the offensive pretty much the entire war. The North had to completely dislodge the Confederate armies to win - all the South had to do to win was dig in and hold the line. So, it's not that shocking they suffered more KIAs than the Confederates did. |

It’s 100% NOT the Confederate soldier. Stupid to even consider it.
Correct answer is / are the various Western tier 1 guys from the US, UK, Australia/NZ , Frnance, Germany etc. |

Von Lettow Vorbeck.
Keeping hundreds of thousands of clown allied troops busy for years. BALLS. |

Modern tier one guys for small units
75th Rangers for larger ops. |

Can't believe no one said Rhodesian's yet.

Spartans given that it was part of their social construction.
Competition literally started from the moment you were born. Formation and toughness from a very early age. |

Those German paratroopers that took Crete. View Quote Honestly, the German fighting man and his commanders of World War II outperformed the U.S., Britain, and Russians both offensively and defensively by a huge margin throughout almost the entire war. The Wehrmacht in general deserves a spot on the list, not just the elite units. |

So the Agoge was all about dancing and poetry and not combat?. GTFO Today it would be child abuse to have a kid trained for combat and beaten the crap out of to toughen them up, but psychological damage aside I bet such approach ended up with pretty badass warriors. |

Recent history, I submit.
http://www.bostonherald.com/news/local_coverage/2017/11/boston_green_beret_amputee_set_for_another_tour?amp Not once after his right leg shattered in Afghanistan in 2013, during a year of surgeries and the months spent learning to walk on a prosthetic leg, did Sgt. 1st Class Nicholas Lavery consider settling for a medical discharge or ending his Army career behind a desk.
“I never went through a phase like that,” the 35-year-old Green Beret weapons sergeant said. “Within a couple of minutes, I acknowledged the fact that this was my reality.” By 2015, Lavery was back in Afghanistan, the first special operator to return to combat as an above-the-knee amputee. “My reasons for staying were the same as the ones I enlisted,” the 6-foot-5 Kingston native said. “I made an oath to protect my country.” View Quote |
