We’ve all seen the new SJWing that several auto manufacturers have gotten into with capping top speed at 112mph ( volvo and Lexus to name a few).
But why 112mph...? |
|
Because they are taking the idea from Europeans who want to cap it at 180km/h over there.

If it matters most people cant handle a car traveling at 45, 55, 60 or 75. Being unable to go faster for the idiots who cant drive, that is a good thing.
Techy people will have that figured out and have it as an editable feature. Hell you can get in an accident in the walmart parking lot under 15mph any time. Speed limiter on my Camaro was set at 89mph. |

From the article:
The automaker is considering other possibilities to limit how fast its models travel in certain areas. For example, the company is looking at ways to use software and geofencing technology to limit the speed of Volvos when they drive by schools and hospitals. "We want to start a conversation about whether car makers have the right or maybe even an obligation to install technology in cars that changes their driver's behavior, to tackle things like speeding, intoxication or distraction," said Samuelsson. My uncle's F 150 was capped at 105. He replaced the chip and it would do 120 with a little more to spare.

Speed limiting predates your SJW meme by 20 years, thank the lawyers and quislings for the "feature".

Didn't OCA say we have twelve years until the world ends?
1 chance to fix things in 12 years ? EDIT: AOC |

I once rented a Chrysler 300 V8 (free upgrade ) and was upset to discover the max was at 130. 112 would have realllllllly hindered me that evening between WA and Montana

Not surprising that most people here don't understand most tires aren't rated for over 112 mph.
You may want Autobahn speeds, but you probably have the wrong tires. They speed limit the car for the tires it comes with, and they usually put cheap tires on new cars. Buy a sweet set of tires and a reprogrammer and fix the problem. Money.
H rated tires 130mph, are more expensive. 500,000 cars a year. 2 million tires a year. Save $30 a tire, do math. Txl |

because its on the way to 40. crash tests are done at 40. so no one should be allowed to drive over 40.
eventually this will be enacted into law, then you will need special permits to drive, and you wont be allowed to own vehicles because they are dangerous. you will be allowed to use public transportation but under the careful supervision your our masters. everyone will be safe. pollution will be limited. just think of the children and you will agree that it should be done. |

Allows car companies to put cheaper, lower speed rated tires on the cars, thus saving them money.
If the car was able to go faster, they would have to equip it with more expensive tires, thus cutting into their profit. So just like everything else in life, it all comes down to money |

02 f250 caps out at 90 View Quote This is nothing new. Manufacturers have been limiting top speeds for at least the last two decades, and probably a lot longer than that. |

My first truck, a 1998 Chevy truck, was limited at 99. So was my 2002, 2004, and 2008 GMC Sierra.
So, imagine my surprise when my 2019 Sierra will do 112. The tires say say right on them rated to 112. |

My tires’ service rating is 99y, I’m good to 186moh I guess. Ran out of room at 160, so not sure what was left.

My Acura TL topped out at 120 and would just bounce off the 120 mark.
My g35 would cut out at 130, you would hit it and here “eeeeee” I think it cuts the fuel. Think my Escalade goes to 110 |

My '05 Escape w/V6 is max 90, but being AWD and limited in tire size/rating, it's probably a good thing.

My V8 M3 was capped at 155 (spedo would read 160 though.) My V8 4R would do 110 when new, still had a lot of rpms left and was still increasing speed.
I mean I don’t see the point of car markers doing this, but I don’t see the point in having a car that will go over 100, because that shit will get you thrown in jail. At middle age, I’m fine with doing the speed limit. |

Remember the 85 mph speedometers? View Quote I was 14 or 15, had a friend 3 or 4 years older. Monte. Monte had a series of Fox body Mustangs, this was around 1990. So Monte, my brother, and I are going down I-20, Monte driving his car. Not surprisingly, we get pulled over. Monte thought the brake and accelerator were on/off switches. Anyway, one of Fort Worth's finest gets up to the car, get's the license and insurance. then asks the question, "do you know how fast you were going?" Monte points at the bottom of the speedo and says, "no sir, but the needle was way down here!" Mid 90's as I recall, probably cost a bunch of money. |
