Liberty even admitted that they had a warrant for the guy's house.  How did liberty KNOW that the safe was going to be in the house at the time the warrant was served?

They should not have given any codes without a warrant for the SAFE, not just a blanket warrant for the location.

extremely bad form on thier part and they will pay for it.

You can't give away what you don't have. There should not be a "factory tech" backdoor into a safe. If there is, there had better damn well be a way to change the default "admin" password and no easy way to bypass it.

Liberty's design sucks.

Why is everyone so mad at Liberty Safes?

Because Liberty Safes are complete protection against any form of attack that the federal government could put upon the residential security container and unless and until Liberty gave up the combination there was literally no possibly way in the universe to get into the safe.

They all should get cancer and die.

In reality the reason everyone is so mad at Liberty Safes is they have low levels of intelligence.

No. The reason they are mad is that the man purchased a safe. It was his property. If he wanted to give access, it was his choice to do so. Liberty made that choice, without being compelled to.

If the Feds have a warrant to search your house, are you cool with vanguard giving them your log in so they can take your retirement account to be held as “evidence”?

I think someone in the other thread said it would take maybe an hour to subpoena Liberty for the code if Liberty had told the feds to pound sand.  Liberty should have made the feds do it anyway, but once Liberty had a database of customers and reset codes they were giving up the code if the feds wanted it.

A lot of you guys don't seem to understand how a search warrant works.

A warrant to search a house lets the police look anywhere in the house the items listed on the warrant could be.
If the warrant is to locate a stolen car, for example, it would let them look in the garage, under car shaped tarps in the yard & curtilage, anywhere a car could be on the property.  It wouldn't give them the right to look in a safe (unless it was a drive-in safe room or something you could put the car in).

A warrant for guns, electronic devices, paperwork, stuff that could be in a safe, would give them the right to search the safe.
Just like a warrant for the above would let them look in a backpack or tub you've got sitting in your closet.  They don't need to come back with a new warrant for each container they find on your property while serving the warrant.

In this case, they were searching the safe regardless of what Liberty did.  They searched the house, found a safe (RSC), and called up Liberty with an explanation of what was going on.

Liberty would have been within their rights to say  "fuck ya'll, we're not giving you codes without a warrant (for the codes)".
At that point, the feds would have just destroyed the safe, cutting it open or whatever to search inside.

In this instance, Liberty sharing the codes saved their customer a destroyed safe.

I'm more annoyed that Liberty has back door access codes than anything.  That's a security flaw and once that gets leaked, all their safes are compromised.

Rightly or wrongly, this is a PR nightmare for Liberty and, yes, they are going to pay a very dear price for this act of submission. It doesn't help that the FBI and ATF are now rogue, compromised, utterly corrupt agencies from top to bottom that do the bidding of a corrupt, compromised democrat-communist controlled government. They don't believe they exist to serve we the people. They believe we the people exist to serve them. And it's only going to get much worse from here. As I keep saying, what's happening to Trump won't stop with him. Or with those who tried to help him. Sooner or later, if you pulled the lever for Trump, these vile reptiles will be coming for you. It's amazing that so many people still haven't figured that out yet.

Back around 1991, we got a call to help serve a warrant on a guy named Greg Garbe in Tulsa. His parents were rich and owned a big interior decorating store. Greg was allegedly caught with porn and illegal weapons so they got a search warrant for his place and found 4 or 5 gun safes and he refused to give up the combinations. About a hundred guns and about 3k of ammo...I know several members here who have personal collections bigger than that

The locks were pretty simple, Sargent & Greenleaf IIRC, and since we had custody of the safes we had infinite time to get into them.
My boss first suggested we used an "auto-dialer" and get the combinations in a day or two without fucking up the safes

WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO USE DESTRUCTIVE METHODS OF ENTRY. I'm not sure who gave that order but I'm pretty sure it was one of the RAC's at one of the Tulsa .fed offices, I won't say which one because he's retired now, but he was really pissed off Garbe wouldn't give them the numbers. It was a little "fuck you, then we'll destroy your legal property"

...so we destroyed 5 privately owned safes, for absolutely no good reason

IIRC, the charges that actually stuck were bullshit. He couldn't find his paperwork on one silencer or something like that

Garbe DID end up deaded by suspicious means out by Keystone Lake shortly after...never did hear what ended up with that
