Sounds fancy. I threw a window out of a car and it was just called littering.

I want to be part of the culture that made a word specifically to describe the formal act of throwing someone out of the window.
Reject modernity. Embrace defenestration. |

Fenster , German for window
The Defenestration of Prague was the event that started the Thirty Years' War. |

A fun word kinda-rhyming to defenestration is exsanguination.

Not out of a window, through a window. You take the window out with them. My favorite word.

Autodefenestration is when you are thrown from the window of a car.

I belive german is similar as a compounding language. "tank" originally was "carriage with treads not wheels and armor and a gun that has a self propelling motor " which SUCKED for using a radio, so they shortened it to "panzer. Also their word for automotive insurance is insane, " Kraftfahrzeughaftpflichtversicherung " or " auto wagon liability traffic protection ". |

Sounds very German to have a long word for a very specific and odd thing.
I think I just heard of that word a few years ago, and it truck me as hilarious. |
|
First heard it in the 80's. Steve Jackson games published 'Killer', a set of rules for an 'assassination' game using dart guns, etc. One of the methods of killing your target was defenestration. Two or more players had to be in a room with the victim, with a window and above the third floor. The killers declared their intent to throw the victim out the window, and said victim was considered killed by defenstration.

Geologists also call the feature labeled "window" in the diagram a fenster. Like the klippe, only in reverse.

I always found it interesting that "window" is fenestra in Latin and fenster in German. Do they have a common root (which would be unusual for Latin & German words)? Or were the Krauts such savages that they didn't have windows before the Romans showed up, or perhaps didn't have a word for them?

One of my all time favorite words. It's so specific, nothing else, just getting thrown out of a window.
