I'm not a huge history person.
What is the worst thing we have done to our citizens since becoming a country? I'm sure some of the crap we did to the Indians is up there but depending on the event a lot of that happened in areas that weren't part of this country at the time from what little I know. |

Destroyed the social network of communities required to survive outside of state assistance. In return there is no reason for people to act within social value constructs since the community is no longer needed for support.

Disarmed it's citizens and then killed them.
They also kill the one's that won't be disarmed, so, lose lose. |

Not gone back back to the goddamned farms and not setting strict term limits

Our government has done all sorts of horrible things, from interning innocent citizens of the USA during WW2 to burning women and kids in Waco....

For raw "fuckedupedness" I'd have to go with all the secret experimentations that were done. The syphilis experiment being the easiest example to find, but there were others just as bad or worse.

worst thing I can think of off hand was the servicemen that the army closely exposed to nuke bomb tests during the 50's, actually made them march towards and into the over pressure immediately after the blast.

If we confine this to US citizens in the strictest sense, internment camps come to mind.
