What kind of rodent or animal could do this within a week? Last weekend I mowed the grass and everything was fine.
This weekend something ate half my tree.
I'm in the WV panhandle, no rivers or lakes nearby.

That's   one of  what I was thinking.

No chew marks. That's a burrowing animal, likely after food. Skunk. Ground hog. Maybe possum. Doubt it's a coon or squirrel. Porkies just eat the bark and we know what beaver's work looks like.

I dunno, it's pretty desiccated, it's been there for years not bugging anyone.
It's on a half acre backyard, so I don't care about it, it's been dead since I moved here 6 years ago
