and you have limited resources. What infantry rifle do you pick?

Hi-Point carbine.
The island is small, so my troops won't have to shoot far. The money I save can be used to purchase stock for the Presidential liquor cabinet. |
|
I call Vlad Putin & tell him I want to be a Commie—he gives crates & crates of AK-74s with the good steel core ammo.
That’s only if Uncle Sam won’t give me M16A2s & M4A1s, MRAPs & US gear gratis so I don’t call Uncle Vlad. |
|
Small island nation with limited resources...yeah, no way you could afford a standing army.
So, issue some surplus bolt action rifles to the population, give the police a few modern weapons, and call it good. |

I wouldn't be a good dictator. We'd all have machine guns and 3gun would be the national sport.
I'd probably go with m4s as the standard. It might depend on where the island is physically located but fn carbine with full auto And a lightweight barrel profile. |

Whatever the US/France/UK/China gives me in foreign aid. I'm not spending my own money on something as useless as small arms.

1). Declare war on USA
2). Lose war to USA 3). Ask assistance to recover from lost war to USA 4). issue B1 Bombers to every troop on island |

The US has it's own island state and territories to worry about a small island that would be of no strategic relevance to the US and it's national security interests. |

My tiny isle of San Fenwick would be armed with longbows. We would then declare war on the US, lose , and reap the rewards of a "Marshal" plan.
|
|
KAC or LMT and suppressors , Glocks, Some sort of bolt rifles in .300 win mag. M-2's and M-240's
|
|
The Imperial Guard would be armed with gold plated AK's, with those weird assed Nork spiral drums.

M1 Carbine, M4 if the climate is condusive and economics bear the cleaning regimen, Mini 14 or AK century series otherwise. Possibly that weird Chinese bullpup in 556, like Sudanese special forces.
Realistically the AK century series, but it all depends on the economy of scale. Use any money savings to buy ammo and good training. Also see about buying some secondhand tanks, possibly some Chinese anti ship missiles and anti air defenses. If there was money left over, something like the FA-50 for any air forces. Odds of me defending my country from some other small tin pot dictator are relatively high. Odds of me defending my country from any nation with naval projection capability is minimal, but possible. Odds of me successfully defending against someone like the US are nil, so no reason to spend like it would be remotely realistic. |

I think I'd go with an AK in 7.62x39 from Romania, Bulgaria, or China.
