I keep a revolver in my glove box, the LCR .39 seen in the lower middle below, partly because it is effective and partly due to cost if stolen...

Lol.  Great gun.  It only took 2 cylinders of abuse to order a cushy hogue.  Much more pleasant.   I love this wheelgun.

Do not practice dumping rounds in your hand.

Practice dumping rounds on ground like they would have happen if you were shooting someone attacking you.

Police back in the day were found to be putting empty brass in their pocket and other stuff during actual shooting at bad guy stuff, cause when practicing they put the brass in their pocket or whatever.

Rounds hit the floor.  Speed loaders hit the floor.

Other than that, I do agree practice a bit to get a feel for things and then do it in the dark.  Learn to keep your eyes on the target and not on the gun.  You can learn to feel the round in the speed loader and learn how to hold the cylinder and line things up without looking at all.

I am not very quick, but I manage.

I guess after reading that part of the quote above the poster meant to work on dumping rounds on the floor with one hand while grabbing speed loader with other.

I am tired, I will leave all the above just cause I did type it.

Sorry Ras if you meant doing things the right way.

Revolver in the left hand, speed loader in the right - unless you have a third hand I don't know how you could catch the brass by my description.

Reloads need to be kept where your left hand can reach them.  Practice reloading with the left hand.  It takes a while to get the muscle memory down, but it's worth it in time savings.  A couple decades ago I used to compete in a local pistol league.  We shot the MLEOTC course of fire.  I competed with a 686 bone stock except for the grips against dedicated PPC revolvers and semi-autos and finished the season in 3rd place.  I practiced left hand reloads until I could reload as quickly as my fellow competitors shooting semi-autos.  Seriously.

I use either a speed strip or a Safariland Comp II. Sadly they don't make the Comp II model for 7 shot models.

I have two 686-4 models at Pinnacle getting 3 inch barrels. They are done and I get to pick them up Monday, can't wait.

Speed Beez...

They are a little pricier but damn they are nice and they make a 7 shot loader.  Have a few for my 686 plus.  Safariland loades are decent for the price but Speed Beez are the tits.

I’m a sentimental guy who enjoys lever actions for fun, but it’s a semi-auto for carry and HD.

If a bad guy chooses to mug me, it will almost certainly be at a place of his choosing as he is an ambush predator, we have an entire thread about that.
https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/Street-robberies-and-you-The-Basics/5-1285487/

I can’t control how many assailants there are, what they are armed with, or if I’m in a spot where fleeing isn’t a option.

What I can control is my sidearm and reloads, and capacity rules out revolvers in my mind. Yes, maybe you are in Alaska and need a huge .454 for bears but in your average suburb, semi is king.

Damn right they do. My latest love is a Ruger LCR in 9mm. 5 rounds of 147 grain HST in my pocket. It's what I carry when I'm home.

One word of caution, OP: I've been shooting revolvers since I was 6. 35 years. In 2002 I had a S&W that lost its timing and launched some lead and copper fragments back at me. Buried chunks of metal in my left ear and above my left orbital bone. Lots of blood, but no real damage. My gf dug em out with tweezers.

But if I hadn't been wearing eye pro, I might be blind. I'd recommend you wear eye pro with revolvers.

Shooting a full size .357 Magnum is a satisfying experience.

Much like a 1911 in .45 ACP.

If you can't defend yourself with revolver, you're the deficient in the equation not the gun.

If all you do is stick around the eastern part of the US, you're correct.

If you ever venture out west, you might see bears that make you appreciate .44 Rem Mag, .454 Casull, etc.

I just ordered one of these:

$300 shipped was a bargain. Got to check out a few at a LGS and compared them to S&W/Rugers. For the money the quality isn't too shabby.

Yeah it isn't Ruger/S&W Quality but a $300 357 Revolver seemed like a really great value.

Definitely seemed better than the cheaper Rock Island/EAA Offerings.
