1) Awesome new way for people to simplify, declutter and distress their live all while helping their environment.
2) Way for poor millennials with worthless degrees, massive student loan debt, and no job prospects to hide the fact that they are just living in a f**king trailer. EDIT: I have no desire to live in a Tiny Home. Just curious as I keep seeing news articles and youtube videos about them. |

Reflection of the decline of American affluence. I can't fit my library in one of those things.

Years ago I thought it was a novel approach to get a decent roof over one's head for not a lot of money especially if you're young and/or do need a lot. Given how much the cost of some of these tiny homes has inflated in recent years I no longer feel that way unless you can keep the cost down.

I would think of one for a vacations property. Easy to maintain, low costs and comfortable enough to spend some time.

Might make good hunting or fishing shacks, otherwise it's a retarded hipster trend.

i think some of you fail to realize that you can just build something underground for tornados and store all your gun shit down there
then you don't have to have a big house win win win |

Tiny homes are just fancy, small, fragile trailers. Nothing more. They’re the worst at everything.
Not great quality, not easily moved, and not even as durable as a typical trailer. Fail. |

As long as I don't have to buy it for them I don't have a problem with them.

I think they're neat Keep it on wheels and you avoid paying property taxes on it, just land tax- https://offgridworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/tiny-house.jpg View Quote |

Meh, whatever, don't care.
I need 500-600sqft and don't require wheels. |

Small houses are a really good idea for some people.
“Tiny houses” takes that to an extreme. But I’m talking Home’s the size of a 1-2 bedroom apartment (1-2 bedrooms, bathroom, and a singlular living room with small kitchen as part of it) Not things the size of a large closet. |

I don’t see the difference between one and a studio apartment.

they Aint cheap
looked at a couple thinking rental units on a piece of property we have..starting at around $30K and they're glorified travel trailers.. |

I've watched the tiny house hunters shows and the buyers are always bitching about the lack of space. Like every other time they go to see a new one they walk in and comment "gee it's kind of cramped" or "this doesn't have any storage".
The concept itself seems ok for a very select number of circumstances though. Maybe like accommodations on a remote jobsite or something. |
|
I walked through a few when I was looking at storage buildings. They are pretty dang cool for what they are, and would make an awesome hunting cabin, but the ones I saw were 40 and 50 thousand dollars.
You can stick-build something of greater size for far cheaper. |

Dumber than mcmansions on postage stamp lots, although not by a lot.
The economy is dumb- there are nice small modular homes out there on the cheap end. The value is low. The resale has to be very low, especially after this trend ends (although I'm not sure if its widespread enough to be called a trend). It would be cool to have one at my range or something, but I'd probably buy and finish out a conex first for way less cost. Hell, a spiffed up conex seems better pretty much all around. |
|
Just buy a nice 5th wheel and be done with it.
And this is from a dude who's dad builds tiny homes and cabins for a living. |
|
It's like all the TV shows on them have disappeared after people learned that it sucks living in that close proximity to others.

Hip & trendy way to a live a (kind of) simpler life.
Back in the day people lived in tiny ass log cabins and did just fine, there is no reason somebody can't live a more modern version of that life. On one hand I wouldn't mind getting rid of all the clutter that accumulates in my house and living in one, preferably in the middle of nowhere. On the other hand, I'd be happy in a "big" house that wouldn't feel cluttered... |

My wife watches some stupid Tiny House, House Hunters type show. The common theme is the ppl always bitching about not enough storage.
|
|
A young couple bought an empty lot on the lake my cabin is on. They couldn't afford to build a real cabin on the lot yet so they bought a used tiny house (about 12x25 if I was going to guess) for a song and dropped it on the lot so they can enjoy the lake until they get money together to build a real structure.
That's really about the only good use for them I've ever seen. |

I wouldn't mind one. Much easier to keep clean. Also, I live alone. Also, I hate unneeded complexity.
