Can't stop the signal!

It's time we challenge ourselves to fabricate a "liberator" style pistol from readily available items from hardware stores. Even better it all comes from big box stores.

Complexity for building and assembly should be on a middle tier basis.

Wouldn't be too hard to rig one up with a metal pipe, a shotgun shell, and some rudimentary means of striking/igniting the primer

The old school trick was the zip gun. A kid would break off the antenna from an auto ( this is in the early 60's, cars had AM radios with an antenna mounted on a fender, were telescoping and made out of a metal tube) and fasten it to a block of wood. It shot .22 of course. Rig a trigger using a nail. The city gangs use these for years before other cheap hand guns appeared.

A pipe, some wood, a nail, a couple of springs, and couple of metal parts.

I’ve een compared to MacGyver by so many people that it’s borderline ludicrous. If I had more time to fuck around I could make a different gun out of the products in each aisle of HD.

3/4 iron pipe sliding in 1” nipple w 1 end cap w a screw in its center.  Smaller pipe holds 12 g shell, slides back in larger pipe against tue screw acting as firing pin.

(Eta, not sure about the sizes listed above)

Pro tio, put a T in there as an assault pistol grip lol.

So long as bbl is >18” and OAL is >26” it is a title 1 self made firearm for personal use and no SN is required.

You can make a short title I SN free pistol slam-bang w a rifled barrel in an chamvering less than 50 cal w/o it being an NFA item.  20 or 12g handguns are title II weapons classified as AOWs.  designed to work w a rimmed revolver cartridge.  It just has to have some at least token amount of rifling as smooth bore pistols in any caliber are AOWs.  Would be pretty cheap project w a TC contender barrel

Basically a longer version of a “slam bang” i believe they are called.

What i described above.  Just note that one that is <18/26” is a NFA violation if not built on a Form 1 and engraved.  But a title I config is legal.  Mighthave had to have “originally” had a shoulder stock though??

Old school telescopic car antenna, block of wood, rubber bands, and a barrel bolt turned down at one end is how we made .22 zip guns to kill rats at the swamp when I was a kid in New York.

Barrel bolt

Tagging this for cool stuff. Can't participate because building a firearm from even an 80% is consider manufacturing and in NJ manufacturing without a license is a felony. So I can only imagine what building a firearm from a 2x4 and some pipe would be.

Do you even zip gun?

Power antenna tube
A ruler
Bunch of rubber bands
Three nails
One 22rimfire round

My Mom had these in Brooklyn, NY in the 40’s and 50’s, and showed me how to make one when I was 7.

A pistol has to have rifling to be legal though right? So for this thread we should stick to shotguns, rifles, or be sure to somehow rifle the barrel.

OP asked we not limit ourselves to gunpowder/commercial ammo. Could Oxygen/Acetelene from the welding rig or some similar gas mix be made to work? A precharged cartridge in the grip, ignition source and a single-loaded projectile. I imagine the trigger releases a measure of gas into a combustion area then trips a piezo-electric spark to ignite it. ??? We’ve all seen a tin can cannon, right?

I have a pile of .22 shot shells. It wouldn't be hard to makea smooth bore 38 that uses the little shotgun shells from a 38 spl

1"x1" x 4" block of wood, the correct diameter for a .22 of a section of a car antenna (barrel) about 4" long, a small hinge, metal screw and a rubber band.  Wear gloves. Did it a bunch as a kid.

I would load some 38 special with black powder. (low pressure). Then I would do a zip gun based on shooting the 38 special. This will
also give you a smoke screen for your get away.

I have some all brass 12ga shells. Again I would make a blackpowder load and a zip gun for it.

I mean I know marlin used to make a "garden gun" that was designed to fire .22 shotshells, but it was probably classified as a shotgun.

Because when those guys did the liberator repros they rifled the barrels even though it wasnt correct to the liberator. Im pretty sure there's something that pistols need rifled barrels. Somebody that knows for sure will be along though to settle this.

ETA here's this

26 USC 5845

(e)Any other weapon

The term “any other weapon” means any weapon or device capable of being concealed on the person from which a shot can be discharged through the energy of an explosive, a pistol or revolver having a barrel with a smooth bore designed or redesigned to fire a fixed shotgun shell, weapons with combination shotgun and rifle barrels 12 inches or more, less than 18 inches in length, from which only a single discharge can be made from either barrel without manual reloading, and shall include any such weapon which may be readily restored to fire. Such term shall not include a pistol or a revolver having a rifled bore, or rifled bores, or weapons designed, made, or intended to be fired from the shoulder and not capable of firing fixed ammunition.

Very easy to make. This is one of my projects I want to do. I have
a piece of sch 80 2" steel pipe for the barrel. I am looking for a 2" thick piece of
steel to make a breech plug.

I do have a swivel cannon. 30" long, 1.75 bore. I make my own black powder and quills.
I do need to make some canister rounds for  SHTF .
