| I changed jobs in the middle of 2008. My old employer has sent me a 1099 that shows twice the amount that I was actually paid. What is the proper method for dealing with this? |

well, I guess there is more to it than that. The guy who owns the company is not the person who does the books. He has claimed that he doesnt know anything about what the actual total may be, just that the 1099 is correct. The person who may know is his ex wife who was bought out of the business after I left

Ask your employer for a corrected copy. If he refuses; have your accountant attach an explanatory letter with your return. You'd be better off with a CPA if it comes to that. Agreed related question––-is it worth it if the difference in 1099 totals is less than 2K?? |

Call the State IRS department you're in, an explain what's happened. I bet that fuck that thinks your 1099 is right will get it fixed as soon as he hears from the them. I had the same problem, one phone call and 4days later I got my 1099. But it's late in the year now you might be on the phone for a while.
