I was following that auction for three days. It's worth going to the start and run videos...that bike is a serious time capsule
Early last spring my wife and I were walking the dogs, and met an old guy wearing a denim work shirt with Indian embroidered over one pocket. I asked him if he used to ride (he has to be mid 70s), and he said he still did. In fact, he said, "I have two bikes in my garage at our house in WA, a xxxx Chief and a xxxx Indian 4." I love Chiefs, but wasn't all that familiar with the 4s. Went home and looked them up on BaT...holy smokes they knock down serious money. Next time I ran into him I asked how often he went out. He kind of fess'd up he really doesn't ride that much, mostly just polishes them...
BaT has some really good stuff up here lately. There's a mint pagoda roof 1971 MB 280 SL that had a $78,000 bid this morning. Next to it is an almost identical 1971 280 SE 3.5 Cabriolet. from the looks of it out of the same garage. First day on the block, and the bid was
$250,000. It's up over that now. My mom drove a '72 280 SE 4.5, she should have gone two door convertible, dammit
Flawless...
