I know.  But, Red Storm Rising is a pretty epic book, and I recommend it.    (I'm not done with it yet, so no spoilers please.)

If I owned a "Member's Only" jacket, I would put it on to read this thread.

(Actually I was probably the only guy in the 1980s who didn't own one though).

These two and Red Storm Rising are the trifecta of 80's paperback awesomeness.

I liked it. And its one of the few alternate-Ryanverse things Clancy has written (or had ghostwritten ) that wasn't total garbage.

Like so many authors, he made the poor mistake of letting all of his main characters age. Nobody wants to read about Jack ryan's son or whatever who is a CIA assassin.  They want more stuff like Rainbow Six (although that let Clark get old, but at least he still kicked ass in that book).

I know it isn't set in the ryanverse, but the negotiator isn't named, and is strangely familiar...

I just read Hunt for Red October like 2 years ago.  Love the movie and finally decided to read the book.  It was okay, but not my preferred writing style.

I was thinking the other day how there needs to be a second book in the "Red Storm Rising" universe.

I just read RSR again myself a few weeks ago and it felt like it ended very abruptly.  Ending should have been longer with some of the story going into what happens "afterwards".

In addition to that, there is so much going on around the world that there has to be many more stories that could be told from the events in the book.  I'd like to know what happens in Norway...  the Med...  the Indian Ocean... etc...
