Here's the Canon specs for the 1D Mark IV ETA: More info/links: DPreview Digital Photography Insights Engadget Photo Errant |

Quoted: What makes it better than a 5D MkII? 10 frames per second, ISO up to 102400, 45-pt auto focus system with 39 of them being cross-type, new/faster/better auto focus algorithm, two DIGIC 4 processors, ability to create different file folders and back up file folders in camera, 100% viewfinder, 63 ETTL zones.... Frankly it's almost 3AM and I'm only halfway down the spec sheet, these are thing that are better than the 5DmkII. I'm sure there's more and I'm sure they will tons of reviews comparing them before Christmas. |

The wife would KILL me if I bought one. Why is the mega pixel size less than the other cameras that cost less? Because 1) megapixels aren't everything, 2)it's a camera dedicated to sports/action/wildlife where frame rate is more important than megapixels and 3) it's a 1.3X crop sensor, so cramming the same megapixels as a 5D MKII on the smaller sensor would cause issues with fringing and other chromatic abberations and noise. |

Do we know the street date?

Member guys this is the 1 DM IV...The 1DM III was only 10mp because it was made for sports/wildlife just like the 1D M IV....I am gonna hold tight ill the 1DS Mark IV, My guess that will be 24mp plus and still do all the fun stuff. The future of Digital Photography is use without flash, so photographing at night will be much easier.

The low light abilities being touted by some of the guys using the betas is sounding amazing. Just not sure if I would like the 1.3 crop though.....I've gotten so used to FF ![]() But, the specs other than the crop are my dream |

But, the specs other than the crop are my dream When the MkVIII is out, you can probably pick up a IV relatively inexpensively... if you don't mind the wait.

What makes it better than a 5D MkII? This is like asking what makes the M249 better than an AR15 that is configured as a target/varmint rifle. If I knew I wouldn't have asked, I'm not an expert on everything obviously. Basically the 5D is the "prosumer" version of the 1DS camera. They're both full frame, relatively slow shutter (FPS), but lots of pixels and great for portrait/wedding type work. The 1D (no S on the end) is a slightly cropped sensor... 1.3x vs consumer grade 1.6x crop factor. The 1D series is much more of a sports camera, relying not as much on high pixels as high shutter speed. Both the 1D and 1DS cameras are true pro cameras, having weather sealing, dual memory card slots, much better batteries, and a host of other features that the consumer and prosumer cameras fall short on. That's my extremely brief and nowhere-near-all-inclusive synopsis of the differences. |

The release of the 1D Mark IV will bring down the prices of used 1D Mark III's, which will bring Mark III's within my price range. There's already a bunch of them for sale over at fredmiranda and http://photography-on-the.net |
