1st U.S. case of deadly new virus found in Wash. state, report says A dangerous new virus that has sickened hundreds and killed six victims in China has now spread to Washington state, a federal source tells CNN. It is the first case of the "novel coronavirus" detected in the United States, according to the source. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to officially announce the case in a special briefing later Tuesday morning. CDC officials said the deadly virus was first detected in Wuhan, China. Six people have died from the virus and 291 have been infected in China, the National Health Commission said Tuesday. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to announce this afternoon that the first case of Wuhan coronavirus has been reported in the United States, in Washington state.
The man is a resident of Snohomish County, Wash., who experienced symptoms after returning from a trip to the region around Wuhan, China, where the outbreak began. He was hospitalized with pneumonia last week, and infection with the coronavirus was confirmed on Monday afternoon. |
