4WD service light comes on and the push buttons won't change.  Turn the truck off, light goes out for about 5 minutes, then back on.  Come home, shut it off, and then back on and it will shift now.  Any thoughts?

Thanks

I had the same thing happen to a 2002 Trailblazer. Ended up being some fairly quick fix at the dealership, but since it was all warranty work, I didn't pay attention to what they did...

Try the 4wd selector switch.  I own an 01 Silverado, and it is a fairly common failure.  There really is no way to test it; you just pull off the trim around your dash, undo a few clips, pop it out and unplug it.  Plug the new one in, put it back in the dash, install the trim.

If you have Autotrac 4wd, then I am willing to bet it's the switch.  The dealer has them and I don't think they are very expensive.  However, if you don't have Autotrac, then I think there are some other components that could result in your issue.

If you have Autotrac, I suggest trying the switch.  I bet that's your problem

mine threw a code that had to be reset by the dealer, switch alone wouldn't fix it. but mine is an 03.

there is a thread in GD about a day behind yours with lots of replies. need help arfcom mechanics was the title.

Update if you care.  Had the code read.  It was the push button module.  Cost $58.

Didn't need another big expense since I owe the state IRS some dough.
