REMOVE THE NEGATIVE LEAD FROM THE BATTERY!
WE DON"T WANT TO TRIGGER OUR AIRBAG!
DON"T FORCE/ BREAK ANYTHING!
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Tools I used.
Remove Steering column shroud.
Remove lower dashboard/ kick plate.
Remove metal kick plate behind plastic one.
Remove covers over the top of the steering column. They block access to the torx
screws holding the ignition assembly.
You'll have to move the shifter down out of the way to pull the cover off.
Now you can get at the top of the steering column to remove the springs
blocking further access to the torx security screws you need to remove.
Unplug the wiring connections.
Unhook these spring so you can remove the two larger torx security screws holding
the ignition assembly in place.
Remove the screws.
Underneath the assembly, remove two more torx screws.
See if your "autoshift" wires are broken.
Carefully disengage the shifter lockout.
The assembly drops off and looks like so.
You can remove the lighted bezel around the lock.
Turn the key in the lock, push up on a tab beneath it, and it pops out.
If, for some reason you take apart the ignition mechanical section, watch
for the springs.
Now you get to put it back together in reverse order.
Now I get to figure out if my problem is the mechanical or electrical part of the assembly.
The key turns fine but sometimes you really have to push it in to get the ignition to engage.
