My daughter has a Contour that will run for a block or two then die, if you spray it with starting fluid it will start right back up.
I was looking at it last night and when I started it and removed the air cleaner it died. I tried to start it with out the air cleaner and it started right up. I tried this with and without the air cleaner same result ( started right up) So far they have done a tune up replaced fuel filter pg., Changed trany fluid, replace belt trnsioner, replace serpentine belt and tensioner. They have also Replaced the timing belt and tensioner, rplaced coil, it has also had a new O2 sensor installed. Could this be a pre fuel pump failure problem or a MAS or MAP sensor . I am at a loss on this one can anyone offer some insight please? thank you Terry |

If so, ARE THEY ON DRUGS? tranny fluid, belt tensioner, serpentine belt.......................... WTF? If you leave it in "P" and strat it with the throttle slightly despressed, and hold it there, will it keep runing? Can you rev it a little bit, and keep it running, if you don't take your foot off the gas? Because 2 things spring to mind. A dirty intake air sensor, or your idle control is wonky. |

First, try dumping some seafoam in it, not the tank, get the seafoam into the top through the vacuum line. Second, clean the MAF using some rubbing alcohol. You'll need a security bit to remove the MAF. Third, do something to the IAC valve. You can replace it or try spraying the old one out with carb cleaner. It's a pain to undo the bolts on a 2.5 V6, you'll have to replace the gasket if you try to clean it. If a previous owner tried to fix the "moosing" problem known with the Contour the constrictor may be plugged up with some junk. Remove the hose running into the IAC and see if someone has stuck a flow constrictor in there. |
