This is the problem I am having with my 2000 TC:
Accelerates fine when the acceleration is slow and even. Will not accelerate at all when you have to stomp on the gas. When I floor it, it acts and sounds like the transmission is not kicking into the next gear. If I floor it and continue to hold the pedal down even though it is not accelerating it will start to miss badly. I had the transmission and torque converter serviced this summer and the mechanic said it looked good. Any ideas? Thanks for the help. |
| Im pretty sure 2000 is coil-on-plug if im not mistaken. If the CEL is on check to see which cylinder it is for. P0301=cyl 1 misfire, P0302=cyl 2 misfire, etc.....You can swap coils between cylinders to confirm your diagnosois. I would replace the coil and plug together. Also check to make sure you dont have any vacuum leaks. |

May be time for new coils. Anybody else have any ideas? |

i would still hook it up to a OBDII and see if there is any hidden codes. check fuel pressure under idle and under load. how is the MAFS? grab some MAFS spray and clean it. any air leaks? my mom's old tbird just to develop air intake leaks and it would cause stalling from time to time when you accelerated hard. easy way to check is take some ether and with the engine running spray around the air intake. if the idle drops or suffers you know there is a leak in that area. could also be the cat. if i remember right you can tap it with a hammer and if it feels solid then its probably clogged. if it sounds hollow its probably gtg. |

Another vote for clogged cat. converter. If you have the time and inclination, pull the O2 sensors and see if that improves. They're sosposed to be coated with anti seize when the factory puts them in but ........
A good soak with PB Blaster the day before will help. |

Final update: I replaced the faulty United Brand coil packs I got from RockAuto with a set of BWD coil packs and replaced the fuel filter. Problem solved. In the pro mechanics forums, you see a lot of bitching about having to use the OEM parts, just a whole lot of junk floating around out there, even under known 'respected' brands like Bosch. Chrysler seems the worst, the pros are 'biting the bullet', the markup on Dealer supplied parts in kinda skinny, but what ya gonna do? |
