Just the tip. Just to see how it feels.

Actually I only put half in...

...the second half.

One time I actually saw a police trade-in Sig with a "certified" round count of 118. I had to give the shop points for chutzpah on that one, especially seeing as how it looked like it'd been used more than Rosie O'Donnell's buffet fork.

It's true. 200 must be the magical number that allows you to decide if a gun "just isn't for" you.

It's like number of sexual partners. Add 600 rds.

I usually sell a gun after 300 rds if I'm not keeping it.  I usually know by then if I hate it.

I thought it was always "two clips."

I've noticed that as well, unless it's a muzzleloader.

Well with an M1 I can almost see it: A guy buys one that was rebuilt with a pristine receiver and barrel, loads a clip, gets M1 thumb and swears a lot, fires rounds off until the ping, tells his buddy to try it because he thinks it may be broken, same thing occurs to buddy, they both decide it's a POS and sell it.

There ya go, the one (albeit very improbable) instance where the "It's only had 2 clips through it" for sale rifle wouldn't be false advertising.

I've seen some real beat to shit police trade-ins that I would believe only had a couple hundred rounds through them. Rusty, dings, heavy finish wear, scratches, but internally looked damn near new. Carried daily by some cop that beat it to hell, but almost never fired it.

I have too, but it looked pretty shot out and not just on the surface. Since it was a shop I wasn't very familiar with, and have only been to twice, I'm leaning towards it being a shop story to try to move the gun more than an instance of a cop trying to talk up his trade-in when the shop took it in.

If I ever sell a pistol on the EE you should search the archives for the old "2000 round challenge" thread
