Wait.. Her company, doesn't pay for her car and tells her she needs to buy a new one? What kind of fucking bullshit is that? We bought it, they paid her monthly towards it. Now we get to sell it and they paid for about 40% of it over the years. They are giving her a 2017 fusion awd of her choosing in return. Not a bad deal. |

Explorers are ok if you know what you're getting into. They are not real full frame suv's. They are crossovers, but a good one for a crossover. Best way I can describe them is a beefed up minivan with the gas mileage of an SUV. Towing light boats with them wil work but not as well as your Colorado. Towing a heavy fiberglass boat with one wouldn't be fun.
Going from a Colorado and Prius to an Explorer will be an upgrade for everyday driving. My biggest turn off with the newer explorers is the crazy high prices for new ones. |

High prices when you are also paying for union benefits for anyone still alive collecting them no matter how long ago they retired...whats that come out to about half the purchase price of the car? |
| I have a 2014 Explorer Sport and I love it. Mine only seats six as we have the second row bucket seats. It's nice because both my kids are in car seats and if my wife has to climb back there to help them with something, it's easier. Not sure if you need that at all, but it has worked out great for us. |

We have a 13 and my wife loves it. I don't tow anything with it though, thats why I have a truck.
One word of warning though, the rear brake pads for some reason like to seize and wear prematurely. I could actually feel them dragging on ours and came to find out it is not an uncommon issue. It's easy to remedy but its the only issue we have had with ours. Great rig for road trips. We travel to Palm Springs each year and it has been awesome for making the trek down and back. |
| Girl at work has a 2016 and they had some sensor and tranny issues out of it early on. Was without it and didn't even get offered a rental. Chrysler hasn't ever left me without something to drive when doing warranty work. My wife has a 2015 AWD Durango and I like driving it. It's a little more $ but I think it's solid and fun. |

We have the same seating arrangement in my wifes 2014 limited. It's been a great SUV, plenty capable for what we use it for, it's not made to go missing or rock climbing but it will get you through some snow or light mud/wet dirt roads just fine. It has the road manners of a higher end luxury vehicle which is what my wife liked about it. The interior and build quality have been very impressive compared to past generations of explorers of which I've owned several |
| My fiancee picked up a lightly used 2015 Explorer Sport (2,000 miles. Previous owner had it for a month then moved back to the UK) for $38k. She loves the car. It's pretty quick, gets decent gas mileage, and is nice inside. My only complaint is the factory sound system kinda sucks. |

We have a 2014 XLT, and it's been great. We love it.
We are a family of 6 plus a dog, so we use that 3rd row all the time. The only down side is when you are using all of the seats there is precious little cargo room. When our youngest two boys were babies we had a minivan and the Explorer has significantly less cargo room in the back. But other than that it's great for the family and really great on road trips. |

Honestly, I'm going to say fo, not because of the explorer. But for the simple fact that you are shedding yourself of that hippy ass car Prius. LoL at you, I love that car. We just did a 6 hour trip to PA on $18 in gas averaging just under 80mph on the highway. This was with all the gear for 2 adults and 2 toddlers and funeral attire. Different tools for different applications. Not everyone needs a brodozer to assure their masculinity. Attached File |

Keep the Colorado as a spare vehicle, you'll want the truck for towing that boat. Oh, I have this too

Seating seven will require you to skip the Sport, as the second row buckets only fit two.
I have a 2015 Sport and love it. Only two issues so far: a bad battery and the paint is chipping off the edge of the hood (known issue with the aluminum hood). Otherwise it's fun with the big Ecoboost. I had a 2016 for work. Same Ecoboost engine. Plenty of storage space. We bought three last year and none have given us the first problem. The AWD works well on and off road. You can do some pretty impressive trail riding for a unibody crossover SUV lol. Also the headlights in the 2016-up are much better than the previous years. I'd suggest you drive the regular V6 engine and the 2.7 Ecoboost. Fuel mileage on my Sport sucks, but I didn't buy it for that. Attached File |

Offering the 2.7 in a lower end package would really make it more appealing for those who want a little more power without jumping to the AWD and 3.5 with sport or limited package. |

If you do some shopping around and arent in a hurry, you should be able to buy a Tahoe or Expedition for $40k or really close to it. This would be a base model but the base models are still very nice. At the end of the year you could buy Expeditions all over the place for about $40-$41. GM had supplier pricing as well as other incentives to get Tahoes down to $44ish and then dealers got a certain number of $3500 bonus tags that they could put on any vehicle they wanted. They were hard to find but you could find a few Tahoes under $41k. Im not saying you could get deals like this now but if you can wait, there is a good chance there will be some good deals again in the next 6 months or maybe whenever the new model years come out (Jul or Aug?)
Imo, the base Tahoe is much nicer than the base Expedition and has a few more standard options such as remote start and dual zone climate control. Theres a chance your wife will say they are too big, especially after driving a Prius but a test drive may change her mind. |

How small of a boat? Theoretically a 20ft center console that my wife has expressed interest in. Right now I only need to tow a 14 zodiac rib. Attached File Our main Family boat doesn't do towing. Attached File |

Wife has an edge and it's better than the explorer imo unless you need 3 rows. Same width but the backseat has more room compared to an explorer. There are different engine options but I think the explorer does have more powerful options. Third row would would make life much easier for the direct family. It is a huge pain to have to take multiple cars places due to the kids car seats. Toddler car seats makes a 5 passenger vehicle 4 tops. |

Too narrow for two. The buckets in my Sport fit a high back booster perfectly. There's a center console with cup holders just like the front row. Give me a bit and I can snap a couple pics. |

I meant the four cylinder turbo. And I agree the 2.7 would be awesome for extra get up without having to splurge for the 3.5TT. Interestingly, Ford puts a 3.7-liter V6 in the Interceptor SUV and the Lincoln equivalent (MKE?) but only offers the 3.5 V6 in the Explorer. |

I will say no fo.
Every previous generation of that thing has sucked ass. Parts falling off, rattles from everywhere, rusty quarterpanels, cheap interior parts, the whole 9 yards. Not to mention the value takes a serious nosedive. I would look elsewhere if it were my money I was spending, just based off past experiences alone. |
