I work 200+ days a year in asscrackistan (independent contractor), so I don't know the "ground truth" of what is/isn't on the shelves, what it costs, etc. Has the supply issue with 22 LR normalized? Is there a new "normal"? I'm just looking for a brick or 2 of plain jane shit to run through a 10-22 when I get home in a couple weeks. I used to just buy this crap at wally world when I went there to buy groceries or whatever before the stupid ensued.

Kinda depends upon your AO.
Some places are plenty and others are skimpy.
Prices are still raised. .05-.10cpr is kinda avg now.

[#2]
The various brands are limited, but I see 22 lr in stock all the time. One week it's Minimags. The next week it's Golden Bullets. The next it's Winchester bulk junk. Never all at the same time, but different kinds come in weekly.

In the past month I've purchased 1200 rounds of Minimag HP.

I can get Walmart .22lr any day of the week if I go to Bubba Neckbeard's Guns and Bait.

hit or miss where I am,  was lots for about a month since its dried up

I just checked bulkammo.com and they want $70 and up for 500 rounds, $90-something for 555 rounds of winchester. WTF?
9/5/2015 5:48:57 AM EDT
[#8]
So how many 550 packs would be a fair trade for say...8 lbs. of Tightgroup?

This.

I'm deployed; I just watch the usual suspects for in stock notices.

Lately it's been limited to 2x500 rnd bricks from 3 or 4 different suppliers.

I was in Academy last weekend and they had easily 20,000 rounds of it.  The prices sucked, but it was there if you wanted to buy it.

My store has it pretty regularly. I usually get 10-20 bricks a week. The shipments are never the same. My prices are based on what the ammo costs me and I sell for between $0.07-0.13 per round.

These are not "giveaway" prices but I am in this business to make a profit and provide myself with an income. Everything sells in 1-2 days and customers are always happy to buy.

Even when ordering small quantities and after paying for shipping, it rarely gets that expensive.

Same here in NW Ohio.  There must be hoarder houses around here with millions of rounds stockpiled.  .22lr is off the shelves within seconds of the trucks arriving from what I hear.  I wouldn't know, I haven't seen any on the shelves anywhere in the last 2.5 years or so.

i rarely find it at wal-mart, but Dicks and Field and Stream has it near me. about $20 for the 325 Federal packs, 30 for the 500 winchester and 80 for 1400 bullet buckets

This, spotty supply at best. Online prices are a little more with shipping but better availability. I have bought a case of Blazer by getting a brick a day at a LGS

I've bought another 10k assorted in the last 6 months, Remington crap, mini mags and some 333 Winchester

Around my AO Gander Mountain will have bricks in over the weekend, same with a local shop, they always have 22, at decent prices.

I have bought from these folks at times when I was needing some CCI one time (Gander has it as does my LGS now)

Smokey Mountain

But be warned, they are a bit pricey. Same with Surplus Ammo. Midway has them occasionally at the right prices.

Around here, it's pretty plentiful... Occasionally at Wally World, Bass Pro and small gun shops.... Almost always in stock at Cabelas and Sheels

Where does Dick's keep it?  Behind the counter?  I walked into the one local to me, and the gun section had no employees, and one 8'x4' display of ammo (mostly 12g).

Still hard to find, it sells quickly and prices are up. You take what you can get, if your gun doesn't like that particular brand, too bad....That's the reality of the current market.

No.
if you go to the big box stores supposedly they have a much better supply on the shelf, but the little FFLs can't order in on demand
We sort of have to wait for our reps to say they got something in that day or week and jump on it asap because it may not be there tomorrow

It's coming back, seeing it more frequently, and its on shelves longer. Picked up two 333 rnd boxes of Winchester at wall-hell yesterday for $17 each.
I've seen it on shelves at Meijer several times now, haven't seen it there since dec 12.

$16.17 to ship it really kills the good deal. I really don't understand how shipping a box no bigger then 8x8 could cost $16.17.

None of the Walmart within a 30 miles radius even have a place for it on the shelves.  It comes in sporadically but sells out immediately.  It can be found d at local trade lots and gun shops for at least three times the original cost.  I just quit shooting except for what it takes to stay in practice with my ccw.  The fun side of shooting is dead.

I don't get it either.  When I go to gunshows I see these bulk packs for $50-$60 and no one is buying them.  The stuff is obviously not moving, so you'd think the neckbeards would quit hoarding it or cut prices.

I've bought exactly 300 rounds (3 boxes of 100 CCI Mini Mags) since before the Sandy Hook shit.  I've seen .22 a couple of other times at WalMart and Academy. That's it. Everything else has been at gunshows.

Because the demand is still there and a neckbeard can get his limit at WW for $75 and make a $100+ profit that's why.

I have bought probably 5k or so within the last 2 or 3 months from Natchez online.

Prices are good and shipping is fast.

Sign up on the wiki arms and it will send you emails when it comes in stock at the prices you set.

Much of it will be in stock for 12 hours to a day.

I just gobble up some of the cheap blazer 9mm to ease the shipping bite of the .22

Cabellas and Academy have it every time I go in. Have for months. Prices aren't bad. Wal mart never has it when I've looked but others have bought it from WM.
I'll usually burn through 200 rounds or so when I shoot. At the point now I just replace what I use and there is no rush. As pointed out earlier it seems to be very regional.

CCI standard velocity and Federal Match target are what I use and both are easy to find.

So that explains Walmart ... now explain the 30 or so online ammo sites that won't sell for less than two and a half times what they were selling for three years ago.

They get bricks on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.  So just keep checking back and you'll get your fill.  I had to stop myself at some point; beard got too long.

I walked into the Walmart in north Suffolk VA for something my wife needed.

They have not had 22 in forever as there is some sort of neckbeard connection.

I walked by the gun counter and looked, as I always do, and they had three boxes of M22 two thousand pack.

I am pretty sure the packages were meant to be broken into one thousand round packages.

I had to hunt down an employee who was shocked to see the 22 ammo.

She sold me all three for fifty a package.

I asked if it was correct , and she told me that is what the package scanned at, she mentioned the regular person was out, and expressed surprise that there was any 22 "because it usually sells out in the morning"..

I got six thousand rounds for $150

Somewhere a group of neckbeards are still weeping.
9/5/2015 10:21:22 AM EDT

I have not been worring much.  I had about 10k of hv in the fort.  Picked up an extra 10k target ammo in the low $30's a brick (which was pre craze price anyway)
9/5/2015 10:27:37 AM EDT
[#48]
The neckbeards have to keep buying to keep the supply low, in the hopes that the prices will remain high.

This won't be sustainable in the long run because retailers are now increasing their prices and demand is dropping off.  When Mr. Sixpack can buy a brick for $50 at the store, who needs neckbeards?
9/5/2015 10:34:30 AM EDT

In before the itchy butt.

I bought my first CCI Std brick since Sandy Hook from Midway at $42.99, limit 1. it was in stock for 3 days.
