Poll If you had to give up one of the first two Constitutional amendments, which would it be? I'd give up the 1st Amendment: Freedom of religion, speech, the press and right to assemble. (58 Votes, 46%) I'd give up the 2nd Amendment: The right to keep and bear arms. (68 Votes, 54%) |

That's the editors email address. Tell him that the poll is flawed and explain why. |
| Manipulative bullshit. If the 2nd Am. option gets majority, they'll say "look, guns aren't really that important to people." If the 1st Am. option wins, they'll say "OMG you loonies, you'd rather keep all your guns and not be able to speak out? gun owners are out of touch with reality!" |

What the hell kind of "poll" is that? How about a 3rd option. () "I'll use the 2nd to f$&@ you up if you try to take away the 1st." Tex78 Who did you f$&@ up after McCain-Feingold? Sorry dude, but the McFudd/CainGold debacle is NOT the same thing as having the 1st Amendment totally stripped from the Constitution. (despite the fact that the campaign finance law is BS. Â I suppose it's a matter of degree, but that's the real world. Â Tex78 |

I wrote this letter to the editor:
To Whom It May Concern, I stumbled across your 1st amendment/2nd amendment poll, and I felt compelled to express my concern that the question was even posed in the first place. Would I rather have my 1st or 2nd amendment rights? Impossible to answer, but I voted for the 2nd amendment, since I could use it to get back my first amendment rights. However, every amendment on the bill of rights is equally important. I feel it is irresponsible for a media outlet to imply otherwise. An astute political observer would know that all of our rights have been attacked at one time or another, often by well-meaning but short-sighted special interest groups. The first amendment has been curtailed in the name of protecting the public from obscenity, the second in the name of public safety, and the fourth and fifth have been essentially nullified by the wars on drugs and terrorism. And to what end? We, citizens of the United States, land of the free, have lost important liberties in exchange for the ephemeral illusion of questionably increased security. As purveyors of free speech, your staff should extoll the virtues of all of our freedoms, not just some of them. Thank you for your time. |
