why do i get the idea that this movie is going to be crap.

nothing but CGI effects and a complete dismissal of the real story.

put down the crack pipe and step away from the keyboard.

Cause its based off of a "Graphic Novel" (I think) which is based off of something that resembles real life.
I probably won't see it. I thought Sin City sucked and this movie looks so historically inaccurate I'd probably go nuts.

I will see this one. It looks decent enough.

If you plan to see it, go in with the full understanding that it is NOT a documentary but rather an action movie set during the Battle of Thermopylae.

This I highly doubt.

I thought the movies were for entertainment and the history channel was for history.

Maybe it is just me.

That better?

I like Frank Miller's work, so I'm willing to give it a chance.

true to a point.

there are just some stories that should not be fucked with.

Looks to be based more on mythology than actual historical information.

If true, I don't blame them. Myth is usually so much more entertaining than what actually happened.

I was sad too hear that the song during the trailer wasn't included...

But I'll pick it up regardless.

MOLON LABE

From the bits and pieces I've seen from the trailer...

Their bottom line of "Dont' fuck with our freedom" seems pretty good to me.

MOLON LABE

The MOLON LABE scene is in the movie, but in english.

There's no way to do the Battle of Thermopylae and not "fuck with it" cause there's no evidence or record of exactly what happened. I mean, if you actually believe what Herodotus wrote about the battle, it wasn't 300 vs a million, it was 300 plus 4900 others vs. over 5 million.

I say if the movie is like the trailers it will be awesome. I don't see how a few freaks of nature and some 10-second scenes with over-sized rhinos & elephants can do anything more than add to the intensity of the movie.

I guess we have to wait and see this weekend.

Movies are not history lessons,

They are photoGRAPHIC art. 300 will be a stunner. I can't wait.

Not that I want to top a 3rd 300 post, but here is some trivia from IMDB

#  The movie never claims to be historically correct. It is based somewhat loosely on Frank Miller's 1998 comic book mini-series. Changes from history were made by Miller and Snyder so as to appeal to a wider audience and create a more exciting and visually stunning action movie, rather than a typical historical epic.

# Frank Miller was inspired by the original Battle of Thermopylae after viewing the 1962 film "The 300 Spartans" as a child. His perception of the 'hero' concept changed greatly after seeing the Spartans make their sacrifice.
