Well I acquired a large amount of Monarch soft point ammo in 30-06 during the panic (thanks Academy).  So...now I need a bolt action...but not a very expensive one.  Im looking around $450 for the top end, not including glass.  General discussion, lend me your expertise

I have a stainless Savage with the Accutrigger.  It's nice and accurate.

Would be kinda cool to have an old Springfield, though, so that's my vote.

edit: $495. Parts won't match at that price and it might be a little rough, but I've seen them around.

Get a Garand from the CMP, then get an adjustable gas plug.

IIRC the Savage 110 package included the rifle, sling, hard case and Simmons scope for around $350 (year 2000 prices) depending on caliber.  Might want to look into it.

ETA:  That may have been a special package for The Sports Authority.  They sold almost as fast as we logged them in.  YMMV

Remington WalMart special with an off the shelf 10x scope.

The cheapest thing Savage makes. With an off the shelf 10x scope.

Mossberg bolt gun. With an off the shelf 10x scope.

All of them will kill shit from 0-600 yards with relative ease.

Good quality bolt guns chambered in 30-06 are more than plentiful, especially in your price range.

What's this "numbers match" you speak of? US Military rifles don't have serialized parts.

I meant that the bolt, barrel, stock, etc would have all been replaced and  won't  not be original to the receiver or even from the same manufacturer.

Nah, not really. Just a $50 fixed power scope. I happen to like 10x, but I think anywhere from 7-12 would be fine if you're looking for a wham-bam reach out and touch someonething back-o-the safe type rifle.
