I have moved since I've got my drivers license renewed, so my address is now different than the one on my license.   I need new tags so I'll be at the BMV tomorrow or Friday but instead of blowing 20 bucks on something I might not need, I'll just ask.

I've heard you can, I've heard you can't.     Can I legally pass the 4473 form if my current actual address is not listed on my driver's license?

I always use the address on my ID, no problems.  Don't know how things work in OH, but if there are no state problems such as registration, etc...

About 3 months ago I bought a Keltec P-32. My addresses are also different. I had no problem. My new addy was written on the back of my DL, by me.

Now, about 2 weeks ago, I'm in wally world and buying a Model 70 .243 wssm. The guy behind the counter, looks just like that hick with the shotgun and no teeth in Deliverence, won't let me buy it because I don't reside at the address shown on my DL.

Then he asks if I have a vehicle registration that shows my current address. Luckily, I do. So I ended up walking out with the rifle after the NICS call.

I guess it all depends who your dealing with.

Mostly, it depends on the dealer. Wal-Mart, because of its ass-load of lawyers, will always require your ID to match you address, or that you have something else to back up your ID, such as registration (car, boat, ORV), current year's tax document, valid hunting/fishing license, or notice from your post office showing your current residence.

FWIW, its a ROYAL pain in the ass from our side of the counter also. I hate having to deny a sale just because the guy I've known for 15 years moved last month and doesn't have his current address.

I worked at Sportsman's Warehouse.  There the ID and the form have to match.  The trick was to use the address on the ID for the form.  Hell, if you didn't say you moved, we wouldn't know the difference.  IF that failed then Oregon DMV has address change on the internet.  We just changed it for you on the DMV site.  It instantly updates the computer so when they run the check, everything goes smoothly.

I just put whatever on there!!! LOL. I just moved from Iowa and my DL has that adress, but i have put down my current adress. No ATF at my door yet. (knock on wood)

But i do think you have to put down the DL adress.

Well I will be getting a new registration, and it will have the correct address...  so if that's what some of them are taking I should be alright.

Thanks guys

At the same time, can't you update the DL address and have them print out something showing it?   Here in PRK they  used to have a sticker to put on your DL but you had to write it in.  Better to have them print a form from their computer.

If you use the old address on the 4473, the 4473 would be inaccurate, and would conflict with the updated DMV DL records (assumoing you told DMV when you moved, as you're supposed to ) that NICS depends on, no?
