Yep. That's why I stopped growing them myself.

Between digging, planting, weed control, insect control, and digging them up...screw that!

They are about the same price at our Farmers Market in southern Erie County western NY.

I figure I at least know how to grow them myself if I have to...if I don't, pick 'em up cheap!

I'm almost out of the potatoes I grew this year. We really worked on them this winter. Local place has 10# reds for $1.98, ok price but mine taste so much better.

Funny what's more expensive back there compared to put here. My brother in MD says potatoes are pricey compared to being next to Idaho and Washington.

Yup. My dad claimed that when my maternal great grandfather died my grandfather's brother managed to cheat grandpa out of huge lucrative tracks of potato fields that great grandpa owned.

Grandpa was a farmer who stayed on the farm with great grandpa. His brother-you guessed it, former president of the New York State Bar Association

That's a good price. How's the quality? Nothing worse than cutting into a potato and finding a black cavity in the middle.
