...what standard round is it closest to (ie 270, 243 etc)?

300 BLK is way better.

I prepared a handy visual aid to compare the two...let me find it...

You didn't go there!

For the record, 6.8 uses the .277 class of bullets, which is the same as the .270 and .270WSM... just it uses the lower grain bullets, typically 85-120 grains.

6.8 is good on deer to 400 yds., imho, 300 blk not so much.

I load a 110g Sierra prohunter and for some reason it plays hell on deer.  At 270 speeds I think that bullet would vaporize on contact but a hair slower and expansion is amazing.

I've never reloaded x39 but the 6.8 uses a very fast rifle powder as a compressed load.  I'd expect it to outperform x39 by a pretty decent margin but that's just pure speculation.

I'm thinking about an upper In this caliber is it a good choice for deer/wild hogs?

Ryann, I do not hunt hogs with my 6.8 SPC but the guys over on the 6.8 forum seem to be keeping the Texas hog population in check with the 6.8 or at least having fun trying
