88 crx racecar build. (Page 4 of 4)

Pulled the motor today. Sorted out all my d series stuff to get it sold and cleaned my garage so I can continue working. Too many metal shavings from the front end on the ground and I need to lay there to do the rockers next. Also picked up another donor car. It's the old motoiq ef track car. Will cut out this cage and refit to my crx and use the b swap harness and the fancy gauge cluster and tach for my car . Only thing left to do besides bodywork is get some axles, a clutch, intake manifold, turbo stuff and b swap mounts. Motivated with a clean garage so I'll probably get back to work on it this month.        |

Got another b20 motor. Traded my d series transmission for a b20 with a p8r head and an LS transmission. With the bigger ports and intake valves the p8r is ideal for turbo. Going to be able to hit 250 hp 200+ lbs of torque with only about 9-10 lbs of boost and it's going to kick between 3000-6000 rpm Will probably throw the longer 5th gear from the ls transmission into my B16 sir transmission for better highway driving. Got a 9.5 lb chromoly flywheel. This thing is gonna be violently quick.

 tearing down my b20 motors gonna get this head sent off to machine shop and build the z2 block I have at work. It's hot as fuck so probably not going to get a lot done till fall. Try to squeeze a couple hours in on weekend mornings before it's over 100 degrees . Try to have all my welding done by then with the wide flares and roll cage and have my suspension stuff all done. Trailer it into work.wgen it cools down to finish body work and paint it and install motor.

Keeping thread alive. It's hot so haven't done much but I painted this boat on the side and got enough cash to finish building my motor and get my polycarbonate windows. So it's pretty much just fabrication and body/paint from here which I'll probably force myself to start doing now that I got all the parts wrapped up. Painting boats fucking sucks  |

Got a good deal on a freshly assembled motor today. Traded my pr8 b20b and 500 bucks for this b18 with forged type r pistons eagle rods arp studs. New OEM oil pump water pump and rebuilt p75 head. Balanced and polished crank new king bearings and seals all around. Block and head decked. Also ordered my polycarbonate replacement glass. Got some aluminum door cards (going to make an aluminum dash.) Only thing left to do is either find a VTEC head or buy a turbo. Still haven't decided which way to go but I have a motor that can take some abuse now. Wanted the torque of the b20 but now I'm not limited . Power goal now is only around 225 but I can push this block waaaay harder than that if I want to go faster. Got some things to do this weekend and next and then I'm going to buckle down and get my bodywork and fabrication done and start getting this thing going.  |

I was literally thinking, "wow, I wonder what it's like to paint a boat" when I got to your last sentence. That made me laugh. Anyway, I'm sure I keep saying it, but 225-250HP in something that weight will be nuts. I did that back when I had an Omni GLHT going for the first time about 25 years ago. I ran with the new at the time Terminator Mustangs and Z06s. Those were good times. |

Had to go into work today and do some fiberglass work so roughed out the fiberglass on my bumper while I was there. If I'm gonna be itchy might as well get really itchy. Just needs a quick glaze to finish up the details and some primer. |

 got a fuel cell. Gonna cut the floor and place it about where the OEM tank was. No fuel starvation on left turns now. Easy to run a surge tank with this if needed as well. Got my struts put together as well might try to get some work done this weekend. If not in two weeks I'm gonna start hauling ass on this again now that it's dropping bellow 100 degrees

I had an ‘87 VW Scirocco 16V when my buddy had an ‘88 (bumblebee yellow) CRX and we drove/raced halfway cross country to our Military Police Officer’s Basic Course at good ole Fort McClellan in late ‘90… LOVE a good JDM/Hon-dar build! This shop used to be my wife’s neighbor at the industrial park before they moved to Cow Hampshire. They did so MONSTER Scooby Doo builds and their shop CRX is insane, you might get a kick out of it. http://www.wicked-performance.com/ Mad props to your even madder skills. Most guys in your industry are really good and specialize in one thing; turning wrenches, body work, fabricating, etc. y’all are wearing several hats EXTREMELY well. 👍 👍 🫡 I don’t think most people realize that 200-250 WHP in these vehicles results in an insane power-to-weight ration; and 300 or more is just…violent AF. |

CRX related story; guy who used to do the tuning for that shop was doing a similar FULL CRX build and was under it when it collapsed on him after falling off the jack stands/floor jacks. The car was just the shell and he literally bench pressed it off himself, but not before it took a massive chip off of one of his front/upper teeth. Haven’t seen that dude in YEARS but he never got it fixed because of the story that went with it. Personally, I would have fixed it… I hear you on the heat, this monsoon season is FUCKED and 105 with 40+ humidity is gross AF. My garage has A/C (mini split) and I’m still sweating my bag off after 5 minutes of doing nothing besides looking at tools…figuring out what music to listen to…etc. In related news, I’m a videogame/Gran Turismo 7 nerd and was pleasantly surprised to see a Garage RCR Civic show up in the game. Local/PHX shop is world famous! |

It's officially not too hot . Got my rear suspension done. Had to weld new nuts into the body because I broke a bunch getting them out. Had to machine out the holes in the camber arms because they didn't fit . Think these are for a later civic or something maybe . Fuckin pain in the dick but I got it handled . Waiting on some control arms to finish the front. Will probably replace my rear hubs and rotors tomorrow and clean up the brake calipers and if I have time remove the dash and get it sold. Will be moving pretty fast from here out hopefully.    |

Got the rear hubs and brakes together, new steering rack ends and boots. Finished my carbon sun roof cover with weather stripping and edges Just waiting on front control arms and sway bar links and it'll be a roller again. I'm leaving the fuel lines and wiring to my mechanic at work since I painted his Lexus for trade so mostly just fabrication and body work once it's rolling.  |

Nice progress! This monsoon season is dragging like a MF’er…it’s gotta be the longest one in a while. The whole “100 days over 100 degrees” hardly does it justice…especially if you’re working outside or in a commercial space/shop that’s cost prohibitive to keep cool…🥵 |
