Their conclusions do seem to all be consistent.  Looks like an ice storm is on the itinerary for North Texas again.  The big problem with that is the tendency to knock out the electricity.

Been there, done that several times.

The conclusion of the following article really strikes me as a likely scenario here in America as it pertains to the conflict in Ukraine.  We’ve already seen aspects of it used and all through Donald Trump’s Presidency, he was constantly called a Russian Stooge by the Left.  Since that strategy has been somewhat successful, why not expand it to his supporters, especially under a climate of widespread fear with the imminent possibility of a full scale nuclear war.

Maybe they’ll use McCarthyism against us and even bring back the blacklists?

https://alt-market.us/global-tensions-rise-over-russia-and-ukraine-what-happens-next/

The biggest question on everyone’s mind is of course if this will lead to a nuclear event? If we are talking about a global nuclear war, then I think not. If we are talking about a limited regional strike, such as one or two weapons, then yes, the chances are high.

The automatic assumption people will make is that if one nuclear bomb goes off, then ALL the nuclear bombs will go off. This is not necessarily true. A regional strike, most likely by Russia or at least blamed on Russia, would actually be beneficial to globalist interests who could use the image of a mushroom cloud over Ukraine as a tool of ultimate fear and panic. The public might be more malleable and controllable if they thought evil Russians with nukes are about to erase them.

An actual global nuke exchange would NOT be so advantageous for the establishment, as the outcome would be completely unpredictable and the vast infrastructure they have spent generations building would be eliminated in the blink of an eye. I think the globalists will do everything in their power to avoid a worldwide nuclear calamity, but they would certainly try to use the threat to their advantage.

Ukraine’s energy crisis will dovetail with Europe’s impending energy crisis this winter and I doubt there will be many countries in the EU that will avoid economic and supply chain breakdowns. The extent of the crisis will be determined by the harshness of the winter.

As far as America is concerned, I continue to worry most about political optics. I am already seeing a narrative floating around social media platforms that conservatives are complicit with Russia and that in some cases groups that stand against the draconian policies of the establishment and the Biden Administration are actually “Russian agents.”

The strategy here is so transparent it’s almost laughable. As Biden continues to overstep and continues to beat his war drums against half the US population, the claim will be that those of us who respond or resist are not “freedom fighters,” but paid Russian saboteurs. Even those of us that have been fighting this fight for decades will be accused of “treason” and “insurrection” instead of simply defending ourselves against tyranny.

The time is coming for the ultimate gaslighting of the American citizenry – They will try to take away our freedoms and everything we have and accuse us of being villains and foreign agents at the same time. This IS the endgame of the East/West paradigm, at least for Americans. But, if we can see it coming then we can at least prepare for it and warn as many people as possible before it happens.

Latest supply chain crisis could threaten global stash of food, energy

https://www.freightwaves.com/news/latest-supply-chain-crisis-could-threaten-worlds-supply-of-food-energy

You probably do not spend much time thinking about barges. This is something that you ought to change.

The barge industry is quite important. It’s crucial for moving aluminum, petroleum, fertilizer and coal, particularly on the Mississippi River and its tributaries. About 60% of the grain and 54% of the soybeans for U.S. export are moved via the noble barge. Barges touch more than a third of our exported coal as well.

Right now the barge industry — and all of us who depend on its wares — is mired in a crisis. Water levels on the Mississippi River Basin are at its lowest point in more than a decade.

The timing for such a drought is pretty bad. Right now is harvest season, so farmers are looking to move their wares. Ongoing labor strife on the nation’s railways also renders that backup network uncertain.

Halted or slowed barge traffic is worrisome for the world at large too. American exports of coal are key right now as Europe faces a massive energy crisis heading into winter. “Any snags threaten to disrupt trade at a time when coal demand is soaring as Europe weathers an energy crisis exacerbated by Russia’s war in Ukraine,” as Bloomberg reported on Oct. 6.

Exports of grain and soybeans are also important right now, because we’re facing a shortage of those commodities amid the war in Ukraine.

“We’re taking a huge capacity hit,” said Sandor Toth, president of barge market intelligence firm Criton Corp.

The drought caused a 100-boat clog last week
Low water levels and dredging shuttered barge traffic heading north and south on the Mississippi last week. At one point, more than 100 towboats and 2,000 barges were stuck waiting. The blocked-off section of the river, between Louisiana and Mississippi, reopened Monday. Traffic is limited to one way, according to Petty Officer Jose Hernandez of the U.S. Coast Guard.

Drought-Starved Mississippi Slows Barge Traffic

That’s certainly better than zero-way traffic, but the Mississippi is still expected to become even more parched. Lisa Parker, a representative of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, told FreightWaves that drier conditions are expected over the next several weeks. The river is slurping up water reserves right now, Parker added, but those reserves will eventually run out.

“The bottom line is we need rain,” Parker said.

Barge rates up around 200%

Current rates reveal how stark the barge capacity crunch is.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the cost of moving grain via barge from St. Louis was 218% higher year over year during the week of Oct. 4. Shipments from Cincinnati and Louisville, Kentucky, popped by 196% over the same time period.

Let’s talk about why we need barges

While you were too busy praising trucks, planes and trains, you forgot to respect our barge industry.

Some 92% of the nation’s agricultural output comes from the Mississippi River Basin. Some of that is consumed domestically and some is exported to places like China, South Korea and Mexico.

Barges are a quick and easy way to export agricultural goods. One 15-barge tow can carry the same amount of freight as two 108-car freight trains or a whopping 1,050 semi-trucks, according to the American Waterways Operators, which describes itself as “the tugboat, towboat and barge industry’s advocate, resource and united voice.”

With just 1 gallon of fuel, the resourceful barge can chug along for 616 ton-miles, compared to 478 ton-miles for rail and 150 ton-miles for trucks, according to the industry group. And compared to rail or truck, it’s a far safer mode of transport by number of worker fatalities.

‘Attaching a garden hose to a fire hydrant’

But, of course, this is all predicated on suitable water levels.

The more narrow and shallow the Mississippi becomes, the less that farmers and manufacturers can move. Mike Steenhoek, who is the executive director of the Soy Transportation Coalition, outlined this in a Sept. 28 email.

Each reduced foot of water depth results in 150-200 fewer short tons loaded per barge, Steenhoek wrote. A tow moving 15 barges, for example, can move 75,000 fewer bushels of soybeans. (Apparently 1 bushel of soybeans yields 48 pounds of “protein-rich meal!”)

Parker of the Army Corps of Engineers said the organization is aiming to maintain 9 feet of navigable water. Toth said 11 to 12 feet is a more typical depth that barge operators expect on the river.

Then there’s the issue of a narrowing Mississippi River. One-way traffic on the river right now means that boats often have to wait as oncoming traffic passes through.

“What normally had been a two-lane road with traffic going in each direction becomes a one-way road with traffic only going in one direction,” Toth said. “That adds just a tremendous amount of transit time.”

Steenhoek wrote that barge tows on the river south of St. Louis usually tow 30 to 40 barges. But barge giants announced a maximum of 25 barges in that portion of the river, according to the Sept. 28 email. The river can’t safely accommodate any more than that.

“When attempting to transport an expected robust harvest via a less efficient inland waterway system, it becomes analogous to attaching a garden hose to a fire hydrant,” Steenhoek wrote. “Having to load barges lighter and restricting the number of barges results in needing more round trips to accommodate a given amount of volume.”

It’s been a rough few years for the barge industry

Unlike the rest of transportation, the pandemic did not provide untold wealth for barge companies. Truckers and ocean carriers had a jolly good time carrying your e-commerce orders in the latter half of 2020 and through 2021.

Barge companies instead dealt with less manufacturing output, and that hasn’t fully rebounded yet, Toth said. Equipment utilization rates remain low, thanks in part to hiring challenges and delays in servicing equipment.

“We had steel mills shutting down, refineries cutting back,” Toth said. “All the major bulk products that we moved by barge saw demand cut, with the exception of certain farm products. The industrial products — such as steel, cement, sand and gravel, frac sand, anything associated with the oil industry — all took a big hit.”

But nothing has been quite as brutal for the bargers than what Toth called the “coal massacre.” Coal volumes have declined by around two-thirds, he estimated.

Rail saw a similar smackdown in coal volumes, but the past decade has only been kind to their stock performance and share prices. Consolidation and precision scheduled railroading helped companies slash costs. Service levels declined too.

The barge industry can’t cut their service levels in the same way, Toth said. If transit times lag, for instance, its customers don’t have to simply suck it up. Farmers and manufacturers can very easily launch their own barge side gig, as shown by grain giant Archer Daniels Midland’s in-house barge.

It puts the noble barge in an unfavorable position. It has the low-margin, ultra-heavy shipments of rail, combined with the ease of entry of trucking. And on top of that, a drought is sucking up the conduit that the industry needs to conduct business. The rest of the world, in need of American fuel and food, could be at risk.

Drills for attacks in America? What’s that about?
And if I planned on war with America that’s exactly what I’d do. This country would lose its collective shit if that happened. I’ve always said if you gave me a couple hundred highly trained operatives I’d bring this country to a standstill. And I’m not even some secret squirrel. Hell, we saw it localized with Dormer(?) and 2 yahoos with pressure cooker bombs. Imagine a couple hundred determined trained men spread out across this country. How and why that’s never happened is actually surprising as much as we’re hated globally.

Economic Strike on China, or something else?
17 October 2022
London, England

My first question is where’s the catch? OGUS never doers something in the best interests of America, Americans, or civilization. And so on first glance, this appears to be a patriotic strike on CCP, but we know from the fact pattern — such as leaving American borders wide open, destroying our food and energy supplies, Afghan and Ukraine debacles — that OGUS does not behave in our best interests, or in the bests interests of anything living other than themselves.

OGUS is Occupation Government United States.

I agree with Nailcrusher, except I think a few dozen would be more than enough. Poison a few water supplies here, detonate a few homemade bombs at public places, and attack power and infrastructure in random cities. The death toll wouldn't matter. It could be tiny...<100.

The US would come to an instant stand still. People would beg the gov to protect them at ANY cost. With our spoiled American society, turning cell phones off for three days is enough for 99% of the population to sell their souls.

We have two huge problems here in the States. The lack of protection of critical infrastructure, and a society that is crippled, and incapable of dealing with any hardship or even inconvenience.

We have two huge problems here in the States. The lack of protection of critical infrastructure, and a society that is crippled, and incapable of dealing with any hardship or even inconvenience.

French police has four Algerians in custody suspected of participating in the brutal murder and rape of a 12-year-old schoolgirl only identified as Lola.

The suspects (Dahbia B., Amine K., Friha B., and Rachid N.) all hail from the same Algerian village, and one of them may be in the country illegally.

Mainstream media turn a blind eye.

'I believe this is the 12th girl in France this year who has been killed by an immigrant...and that's just France.'

Political commentator Eva Vlaardingerbroek says young girls are being 'sacrificed on the altar of mass migration'.

Sort of a continuation of the above video with an emphasis that WWIII has already started and will only escalate.  Interesting point that Russia & China both know that the US & EU cannot support a two front war and that could be an applied strategy in the future.

So China has apparently halted all sales of liquified natural gas, that should help

We tolja not to start an elective war. Good luck. Some Europeans are bound to literally freeze to death. And then comes food shortages.

A primary defense against cold weather is good nutrition. At this rate, by winter 2023/24, huge numbers will be malnourished, energy starved, and far more deforested than today.

It may not hurt.  It looks like at least parts of Europe are getting plenty of LNG.  Not sure where it is coming from.  I hope it's not from us as that will keep driving our prices up, but I expect it is.

35 LNG ships at the coast of Spain are waiting to offload their cargo. Europe is getting so much amount of liquified gas that the capacities of the LNG terminals are at max. More LNG terminal will be operational in December. 2 only in Germany. One of reasons why gas prices fall.

That first video didn't look like protests so much as Black Block terrorism.

Yep, attacking BMW, too.  London has had several anti-oil protests lately but not smashing windows yet.

High chance those crabs are in China’s belly. As predicted by me in early 2020, China has been raping the seas as food prices and availability explode and collapse. All predictable. Is this crab issue actually due to China? I do not know. Is China doing this globally? Yes. Definitely.

I am going to update myself here.  35 ships sounds like a lot, but...

----------------------------------------------
266,000     Average cubic meters of LNG per ship.  source

11 kilowatt hours    Energy per cubic meter of LNG.

114,114 megawatt hours     Energy waiting to be unloaded in Spain.

339,655 gigawatt hours     Energy consumed by Germany per year (fossil fuels only in 2016)  Does not include nuclear and renewables.  Source

0.035%     The amount of Germany's fossil fuel energy needs that 35 ships will cover.

----------------------------------------------

That's just a drop in the bucket.  And that's just Germany.

ETA:  And that LNG is likely going to Spain, not Germany.  Maybe they will be nice and send a lot of it to Germany.

We all have great fun making fun of the Germans for trending away from German natural gas, and purchasing from Russia instead.  But there is a reason for that, and it is not because they don't want gas rigs polluting their view.
