I've gotten that in the mail before. I didn't get nice color pamphlets, instead I had what appeared to be a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy, in black and white.

I found an old laptop the other day and today I got a reader so I can recover a bunch of old pics of my son and family from his birth to ten years ago.

A total blast from the past and a project I dedicated hours to to make sure I didn't miss a thing. Definitely a fun project.

I disagree.

Kershaw doing the exact same thing with better blade steel for less than half as much is reasonable.

Yeah, but I'm not sure how - didn't really pay any attention to what pieces came from where. It definitely straightens out near the bark. Maybe the bottom of the curve is different, like reaction wood?

Yeah it's definitely too long and the tip is curved out too much. I based the length off some of my production knives but those are bigger knives in general, I should have scaled it down a bit. It catches on stuff. I'd rather do a wire clip which are much easier on clothes, furniture, cars, etc. but I haven't figured out a good way to do a wire clip yet.

I can do that. I'm about to start another batch of 4 this week. I'll try to capture a start to finish set of pics along the way.

Here is the status of the twin to that one I posted yesterday. Both were started and heat treated at the same time. It's ready for a final polish on the internal parts and then will peen it together in the next day or two. Then figure out if I want to apply a finish to the handle material. It's a chunk of some kind of industrial caster that another knife maker sent me to play with. I think it may need to be sealed with something like tru-oil, it was dusty as hell when grinding.

It was good, if a little dry at the top. I should have gone with my first instinct which was to chop/tear them up like you would for normal bread pudding.

I like the shape of that one. Not sure about the material though. I get it's fun to play with stuff, but it doesn't really look all that attractive IMO.

Yeah I agree, it's not as nice as I was hoping for. It's all part of the learning experience. The photos I saw from the other maker that sent me the scrap looked a bit better than how these are looking. I need to see how he finished them. This will be the only knife made with that material since I used all of it that he sent me. It does look better when wiped with oil. That's why I think a slick finish like tru-oil may make it look a bit better once complete. I will say it's very smooth now that it's sanded to 1000 grit. It'll slip very nicely into a pocket.

I usually try to stick with G-10 or micarta. I'm probably going to order a few pieces from G.L. Hansen to use on at least one of these in the next batch but damn it's hard to pick out a single pattern from them.

ETA: I definitely appreciate the feedback, it helps me gauge my styles. I get tunnel-vision on them since I spend hours working with each one.
