  The sheep are bleating in the comments section. I am still constantly amazed at some people's willful obtuseness when it comes to real life. John Adams to his wife Abigail in 1781: `I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, commerce, and architecture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, mucsc and architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain.' I believe that it is time again for us to study politics and war. Our grandfathers put paid to Hitler and Tojo, they were masters of war and diplomacy. Our fathers placed us in space and started the information age that we enjoy which then led to the artistic "freedom" that so many consider a calling today. Most kids want to be entertainers of some form, the sciences are suffering and we're importing our next generation of scientists. I believe that we are coming upon a time when the soldier will once again be ascendant. I think that we will all be called to be responsible for our own safety and defense and I think it is critical that we do not train our children to be sheep. Placing them in a .gov institution and training them to be afraid to defend themselves is irresponsible at best, immoral at worst. 96Ag Oh yeah, I hit the poll too. It is not even close. |

What a liberal douche. Typical. Glad the idiot doesn't want to move here. As a college professor, I thank god I do not live and work in SC -- for many reasons. If they pass this law, it will just be one more reason to be grateful. If my own state ever passed such a law, I -- and pretty much every instructor I know -- would begin to look at a career change or early retirement. Just what we need: disgruntled, overly-emotional students who are convinced that the F they earned in your class will destroy their lives -- all with guns! |
