This thread-

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=939491

It made me nostalgic.  Since I had this sitting around my office, and the scanner was on, I present to you, the time machine:  AIM Surplus Spring 2002.

Weep for the "good old days".

AIM is still one of my favorite vendors though

I think I just blew a gasket.

I remember those days fondly (despite the ban...)

At least we had cheap ammo.  Now we have the guns but nothing to shoot in them.

Interested how a few of them aren't much different..

Romanian AK drums for one...a lot of the guns are different but not too different..

Ammo now.... thats a whole different story

I should have bought a lot more ammo back then.  Oh well.

I have a couple of old American Rifleman magazines that are pre-1968.  It amazes me what was sold back then.  Not to mention the fact that all that neat stuff could be shipped straight to your door.

What's really bad is the older Canadian guys who were talking about how you could buy M1 Garands for $175 back in 1998.

If only I could have gone back and gotten my dad to buy a couple. He got a .30-06 back then but it was a fudd gun.

AIM buys a lot of their stuff from Century.  Century is INFAMOUS for everything being "Last chance" or "Don't know when we'll see these again".

If you've ever been on Century's mailing list, you'll understand

Not knocking AIM, just found it funny.

Back in the mid-2000's, everything my Century rep emailed me was tagged "Small lot", "Going fast",  "Last chance on these", etc, and in the body of an email was always some discussion of how this was the last bunch from Europe, or coming laws prevent further importation, or Something to that effect.  They've toned it down some in recent years, especially since almost everything they claimed was "last chance" has come back around at least once since then, but you still occasionally see the "Never again" in their emails.

You and me both.  I bought tens of thousands of rounds, but shot most of it up plinking and running through friend's machine guns....what the hell, it was cheap, right?  Who knew?

I remember those 1000 rounds of .308 Port for $139 deals. A friend of mine and I had just put together our FALs and that ammo was prefect blasting ammo. I shot my FAL so little that the 1000 rounds lasted me for almost 2 years. After I shot it all up there was no more to be found.

Hah. I lived through it and didn't take full advantage. That's when I was first getting into firearms upon turning eighteen. I got a lot of that stuff at those prices. My only regrets are not buying more ammo and a K31.

To be fair, laminate stock M44s have been pretty scarce since '04 or so.

Wasn't into ARs then (dammit), but did purchase a bunch of stuff on that scan from AIM about then.  First received my C&R license in '98 and in 2002 I was burning up my CCs there.

Honestly, I don't know, but I've passed on buying one more than once over the past few years.

It's OK.  There are some on this very site that will scream till they're blue in the face that this is just a "bubble", and ammo will go back down to "Good old day" prices... any day now...
