I have a high school classmate now in Iraq.  I would like to send him some gift magazine subscriptions.  I have his APO but don't know how to fill out the subscription info to send the mags.  Can anyone give me advice on how to use his APO as an address (what do I put in the blocks for city and state)?

You can use my old address as an example.

SGT Your Buddy
B co. 2/104 AVN
Camp Adder T-1
APO AE 09331

Use this format and fill in his info.

Yep. I don't know your buddies address, but he might not have an 'address 2' line. I don't right now, just my name, unit and the APO, AE line.

If you are using an automated system that does not list AE or whatever it is for the state, then put NY and it will get there (at least that used to work).  The military usually does a very good job of getting mail to people when someone messes up part of the address.  I got packages months after they were sent by people who put the wrong zip code or mixed up my garrison and deployed zipcodes.  I think I had a package go from the US to Iraq, back to the US, and then finally to Germany.  They will hunt you down and make sure you get your shit before they give up and return to sender.
