Do you have a quota that you have to meet with speeding tickets every month? Do you get a raise the more people you pull over? I have always wondered why there are more cops out gunning for speeders at the end of the month. ETA: What about Stats and Incentive pay? |

It is against the law for quotas to be implemented. I got paid the same no matter how many arrests I made or how many reports I wrote. |

We don't have quotas, we can write as many as we want.
We keep 10% of every ticket we write. Most State Police troopers keep 15%. Just kidding. My department has no quotas, and we don't get any of the money. I think you are seeing more cops out because there are a lot of travelers on the road for thanksgiving. |

Its not just around holidays, its always at the end of every month. |

I could give a rats ass about what someone upstairs thinks about my "numbers." My numbers reflect atleast 1 arrest a day, usually 2. These are mainly from TS and most of the time it is drugs or some issue with their license. That being said, I only work 1 city and one area. Everyone's boss is different, but I have yet to meet anyone who's answers to these questions wouldn't be a variation of mine. |

No quota and no raises.
I go months sometimes without writing a citation for a traffic violation. Traffic is not my biggest priority but it is one of my functions. If I want to pull a car over and arrest/cite the driver I will. If I want to find a car to tow I will. I mostly respond to calls for service and take Residential/Commercial and Vehicle Burglary reports or some other crime. Traffic is way down my list of priorities. |

Do you have a quota that you have to meet with speeding tickets every month? Yes, the winner usually gets a toaster oven or windbreaker with agency logo on it. Do you get a raise the more people you pull over? Yes, that's why we just make shit up. The more you stop, the more you get. I have always wondered why there are more cops out gunning for speeders at the end of the month. The end of the month is when the agency pays the bills and struggles to make payroll. Unless we get out there and bust more speeders, neither the bills nor payroll gets paid. ETA: What about Stats and Incentive pay? What? The above isn't enough? Seriously, no to all the above and I have no idea what you are talking about reference the end of the month. |

We have quota, they call it stats and incentive pay. Anyone says different they are BS you Damn right. When you get threaten to be transferred or flopped tours for not writing enough, THAT is a quota. Quotas are illegal of coarse, so you never here the that word. |

I have no ticket quota nor do I get paid any different for writing 10 citations in a shift or none. It is suggested that we make three contacts per shift and patrol for 40 miles. Sometimes I get it sometimes I don't. Oh, I gotta admit, that's a good one! |
| I've heard of some cops around here that sit up shop in one spot all day and just catch speeder. Give out a bunch of tickets and give everyone the same court date on the ticket should they want to fight it or whatever. They they go to court that day and get double the pay they normally would. I guess it depends on the department on if they pay like that or not. |

No. I write maybe 1one speeding ticket every two or three months. But I write a lot of unlicensed driver, drive on suspended and false tabs tickets. No incentive pay for tickets or arrests. |

Three contacts can be anything from a citizen asking directions, a casual conversation with a citizen at the stop and rob, to actual traffic stops. I have ZERO requirements on writing citations. They like for us to write speeding citations at 15 over, I write at 20 over. |

I don't give direction to disneyland with getting name, date of birth and phone number. It goes in my log as a citizen assist. Because God help me if come Monday the citizen says I gave bad directions or was rude and that contact doesnt show up in my daily activity log. Non cops dont realize we have to document everything we do from eating lunch to gassing the patrol car. You account for every minute of your work day. |

I guess it depends on the department on if they pay like that or not. Here, all citations written within a given month all have the same court date. We don't get paid for that court day. If a person wants a trial they are given another court date two weeks away for nothing but trials. |

But I do have to call in the contact and log it for my activities during the day. You don't step outside the patrol car or have contact with someone and not call it in. Get out at the stop and rob to grab a coke you have to call it in and log it. I have had someone complain on me before for them getting lost after giving them directions.

No such thing as a quotas.
BUT If officers are not writing tickets as necessary, when it comes time to ask the .gov for grants, the .gov is not so inclined to give up the money if they dont see there is a problem. So therefore officers need to keep writing tickets to get grant money at the end of the year. |

I am not a cop, but my sister is. She is in the supervision level and she says they look at it from a statistical analysis basis. When they see a cop who is either writing to way more or way less tickets the their counter parts, they look into it to make sure everything is on the up and up. According to her, they are more concerned with the cop who writes way more tickets the the ones who hardly write them.
I would say that this practice is not a quota system, but a good management quality assurance practice. |

We don't have an official quota system but the unofficial system is if you ride in a nice part of town and don't have a big call load they would appreciate it if you would write two tickets a night. If you ride a ghetto car with a lot of calls, tickets aren't a thing.
Really, in the ghetto you can't write tickets because no one has a license, is wanted, etc, etc so if you stop them you will likely have to lock them up or just let them go if you are too busy to mess with it. If you just refuse to write tickets they will put you in a radar car for a shift to try to make you write a few. |
