I ran another shaft way out north (I think, basically it goes left from when you walk in the door and down the ladder) from the main area of the mine entrance, found a whole bunch of redstone when I took it all the way down to bedrock. I need to find a way to trap creepers so I can get some gunpowder to build TNT with, then I can build some explosive traps –– I haven't done that before.

I ran another shaft way out north (I think, basically it goes left from when you walk in the door and down the ladder) from the main area of the mine entrance, found a whole bunch of redstone when I took it all the way down to bedrock. And, as I posted before, is this server playing cooperatively, or is this going to end up in a lot of griefing and pvp? There was a fuckload of damage for a creeper to have done. Both of the chests were gone, all the torches for the first long sideways shaft were gone, most of the floor was gone, my craft table and oven were gone –– but the steps were still there... It could have been more than one creeper, maybe, but they don't blow up unless somebody walks up to them in my experience. No biggie, I already rebuilt and am working on more mining.
