CMMG is releasing a muzzle loading ar15. I've never heard of or seen anything like this before. Is this something new to the market or has it been done before?

It's an interesting idea...

I'd love to see the conservation officers face when he first walks up on a hunter with one of those during muzzle loader season.

Heck just seeing other hunters faces would be worth it.

Sounds like the answer to another question that wasn't asked.

and I thought my bolt action muzzle loader looked funky.

That's a great idea, I want one already.  It's something I have thought about since I saw a crossbow upper.  Muzzleloader hunting is pretty popular here and this is just a nice way to keep a lower and add the upper.  Could make a storage compartment out of an old magazine to hold speed loaders.

In CMMG's defense, some of the inline designs based on center fire rifles have greater accuracy potential. Think the bolt action designs, the Thompson Encore, etc. However this thing looks like it uses 223 blanks instead of shotgun primers, which I think is really stupid.

That would be stupid to use a 223 blank.  Not so interested now and I wonder what some states will say about the legality of it.  Is there a link to check it out?

EDIT-  I see the 223 is not really a blank but a cartridge with a place for a 209 primer.  That makes a little more sense.  I wonder how hard it would be to modify other calibers to hold a 209 if you don't have a 223 bolt.

States that allow inlines should allow this. States with primitive weapons hunts will prohibit it like they do all inlines. As someone who hunts with inlines, it might be cool pending accuracy tests from the big wigs.

Maybe for people that want to use a AR platform rifle during muzzle loading season.

I look at the AR platform like a semi auto TC Contender.  If it is cost effective to buy a muzzleloader upper rather than a complete gun then I am in.  Sadly, I fear the upper will probably cost WAAAYYYY more than a good in line muzzleloader.

One more accessory that someone thought would be good for the market. What's the line? "If it gets more people to buy an AR15 it's a good thing". I think it's a neat idea, but something I personally won't buy, just like I don't trust an aluminum AR lower to withstand .50BMG recoil. Yes, they're "proven" safe, but user trust is just as important as physical strength. That's a lot of recoil transferring through those little takedown pins into the stock. As for the blackpowder upper, I'm just not into blackpowder rifles. If someone else wants one fine, but it's not something I have a use for.

If priced reasonably I'd buy one.  I live near a military base and have to cross (it about 50 miles shorter) to get to my hunting area.  All forearms that are brought have to be registered and its a pain in the ass at times at the gate if you got huntnig stuff then they want to see reg papers etc.   Ive been waiting for this for some time.  I could register one lower for all my hunting needs.

The biggest prob is I cant see it being as cheap as a couple hundred dollar knight that would do the same thing.  I also dont like the ram rod in the sling.

If its accurate and costs less than 300 ill buy if not then bottom of the line ML is fine for me.  I dont need to take shots over 50yds where I hunt so all it has to do is launch lead and hit a deer in vitals.

I thought this was what a 5.56 blank and cleaning rod were for?

I want one...but as a non-SBR SBR.

A 10" barreled, smoke throwing big KER-FLOOOMing AR would be kick ass

I too thought muzzle loaders were for old farts and hunters until shooting them.

 They're a flippin' blast.

It's fun on an entirely different level from rattling off 30 rounds or rolling around on the ground shooting at cardboard terrorists but it's fun all the same.

WTF though,I shoot everything from black powder to skeet to bullseye pistols to EBRs to just plinking with old $50 .22s. Guns are friggin awesome and moar guns are even moar awesome.

Seems firearm manufactures have gone from doing actual R&D to producing straight up gimmicky crap. The only item I've seen introduced that is worth anything at this year's SHOT show is the P938, although I know everyone seems to be messing themselves over the Tavor.
