In the AR15 Basics section, there is a thread specifically for Armalites AR10. Some posters have asked questions about other brands of .308 AR rifles and are being blasted by regular posters on that site for talking about non-Armalite AR10s. Armalite is not a variant, it is a brand name. The AR10 name is now commonly being used to refer to .308 ARs not just Armalites. Right, wrong or indifferent it's happening, similar to the use of Colt's M4 for all M4 type carbines. Suggestion - Move the Armalite thread to Armalites forum or and threads for DPMS, BM, KAC, Noveske, POF, ASA, and all the other companies that make a .308 AR variant. Have the AR10 specific thread tacked under the Armalite forum. Thanks for your time. |

I'll add a .02US to that thought process... the "brand specific" nature of the "Armalite AR10 & AR180" seems out of place with the other forums under the AR15 catagory. Nothing against Armalite but it seems illogical to have a forum for those specific products and then lump all other 308's in with the "variants" forum which seems more oriented toward 6.x calibers, experiments, tests, etc on the AR15 platform. I would suggest a general forum for 308 caliber ARs separate from the variants forum much like the "rimfire and pistol calibers" forum. And despite its qualities I don't know that there is enough interest or activity to support an AR180 forum either. |
