Do ASP handcuffs have to use an ASP handcuff key to be unlocked? Or will a S&W cuff key work or one of the no name sold in bulk keys work?

Thanks!

My regular pen style key works.

A peerless key works.

However, the cuffs don't fit right in my open top safariland holster.

they will take all the different kinds of normal keys. they dont fit in some pouches at the other poster noted.

they are super awesome because you can double lock them and unlock/open them by only using the cuff key as well as double lock them by clicking the little metal strand in the cuff body as you do with S&W cuffs. also theres a key hole on both sides of the cuff so you dont have to fidget around in the dark to find it.

And that is the big reason why I don't like them. If I cuff in front I always put the key aperture facing up so the person wearing them can't get at the aperture to try and pick it.
I cuff with them facing down when I cuff in the rear because it's much harder for them to pick them due to not being able to see the cuffs.
Not 100% full proof but it's another trick of the trade.

That is exactly what I thought when I first saw them, so I researched some more and got a pair to try out. The locking mechanism in the ASP is MUCH harder to pick than a regular cuff. (I can pick a regular cuff in seconds). They are also supposedly coming out with a "Black box" that will work with their cuffs as a regular box won't fit over them.

Thanks for the info..I can't carry personally owned cuffs, we're issued peerless hinged for line staff and linked ones for ERT use so I don't have to worry about it...yet.
Although cuffing a cell warrior with a pair of pink ones would be f**king hilarious!

The damned things are like $45 or something. I bought mine about 6 months ago so i dont remember exactly how much they cost but you need to engrave your name into them with an electro engraver or THEY WILL WALK AWAY. The city jail here takes the prisoners off your hands at the front door and they will bring the guy in and search him and book him and all that and if you arent careful they will "forget" to give asp handcuffs back after they put the prisoner in a cell.

Also i met a big mean lookin cop in a college town that had a pair of the pink ones prominently hanging from his belt and he said that he keeps them around because he can talk drunks into behaving out of fear of being cuffed with cuffs irons in front of his buddies.

I would be more afraid of jail than cuffs that clashed with my wardrobe but apparently this is a big deal to drunk frat boys in college.
