All I ever hear is bad stories about these folks.

Lots of stories about these guys in New Jersey breaking into house's and stealing
peoples stuff.

DO THEY HELP AMERICA IN ANY WAY ????????????????

There is always good stories about cops and their help is very odvious
at times. There must be something good the Commie bastard, child and
wife murdering, dog slaying. house burning, gun stealing, law breaking, bill of right
hating anti American ATF agents do.

What is it?

ETA    PS I sold all my weapons of mass freedom yesterday and my dog died last week
so no reason to come to my house. BASTARDS

FBI dudes I know refer to ATF as A-Hole Toting Firearms.  That is how their brothers of the badge feels about them.

Those, and auditors are not the "ATF" the OP is referring to.

edit: and again... they're doing something they shouldn't be allowed to do in the first place, just politely.

I have nothing but good things to say about guys I've dealt with at NFA branch.  They have been very helpful resolving any issues I had navigating the NFA acquisition process.  I don't think they are agents though.
The Agents I've worked with, limited exposure, have been ok with one exception (aint goin into detail on that one).
Other fed Agents that I know (shooter SWAT types) have a poor opinion of them as a group, but I've never heard an individual agent badmouthed.

BATFE as an agency will only be as good or bad as the persons in charge and they get their marching orders from the Politicians in DC.

Well, try contacting one of them if you know of an alcohol, tobacco, firearm, or explosive related crime you feel should be punished. See how it turns out. There is one way to find out..

Say someone steals guns from a household after the gun owner passes.. And these guns required special say stamps. Say you are the heir to the guns. Say you have incriminating proof the crime happened. Say those criminals know you and will not comply with written request of the passed gunowner. Who would be best to settle the case?

Absolutely.  Say father dies, has an NFA collection.  Will specifies they go to his youngest son.  Uncle Bob decides he wants those guns instead.  See where this is going?

I had faxed in an app. for an updated Form6NIA, but had not received it back yet and I really needed it for the upcomming weekend... I phoned and asked about the possibility of getting a rush put on my app., I gave 'em my sob story about wanting to take my new shotgun to a match in MI, but was told "Sorry, it's still in process and will take a couple of weeks..."

'Next day I go out and when I come home there's a message on my answering machine from the nice lady at BATFE... 'She says she managed to get my permit approved and if I call her back with a fax # she'll get it to me that day.

I called. 'Gave her my wife's office fax # and sure as shit I had my permit later the same day and in time for the weekend.

I was out to sea and had 2 NFA transactions going. I had an SBR and was moving 2 weeks after I pulled into port for my next unit here in GA.  My 5.56 suppressor was pending but my .22 checkmate can wasn't even on the radar.

I had sent in the form to request permission to move my NFA items before I left.  There was an issue and I had left my USCG email address on there for a point of contact.  I made some mistakes on that form and only sent 1! doh!

I had a very nice lady contact me via email while I was out in the Carib.  She pushed my paperwork thru for the xfer to GA. Gave me updates on my suppressors.  The 5.56 can and the .22 can were approved within a week of each other even though they were submitted 2 months apart .

I think she hurried my paperwork because of my situation. She knew about it because I told her I couldn't resubmit in time for the move.  She seriously hooked me up.

Other than that, all their arbitrary rulings piss me the hell off.
