excuse my ignorance here,
but if DSA has already made a deal with steyr to make the AUG (when ever that happens) how is microtech going to be able to leagaly do this without  getting into legal trouble?

DSA has the lic. but not the incentive.

I dont know, AUG's are pretty awesome rifles. I remember having this conversation with people who began producing HK 91 clones a few years back. I remember people telling me to sell mine because they would be worthless is a couple months...when the clones come out.

Well, clone HK's have been around for years now and 95% of them are pretty crappy and dont hold thier value like Heckler's do.  A used HK clone will sell for about 60% of purchase value. So my answer is no. Not until the USA manufacturers prove themselves. So far, I'm not holding my breath and to this day I'm glad I never sold my HK 91; its still held its value.

So even though dsa has a contract and a license with steyr,  Microtech could still produce them assuming they were able to obtain a license from steyr?

Or they could just get it from DSA

DSA had previously stated they could not get the tooling and would not be making any Augs.

Is that true?

I'm not saying you're all wrong but why would anyone need a "license" from Steyr? The copywright period expired already and we can all start building them out of our kitchen sinks. Isnt that what people are doing with AR15's? I dont see people paying Armalite or Colt a license fee; mainly because the products "copy-wright" period expired. The AUG's were built at around the same time as AR15's, so why do we all need licenses. I'm gonna start building mine tonite in the basement, I know i have a screwdriver around here somewhere.

Ok then. I'll start building one tonite, I'll just melt down some plastic toy soldiers and we're in business. I mean....what could possibly  go wrong.
