As I was pondering the AWB sunset I had a thought. If Fienstein and crew are so adamant about the extension of the AWB why did they vote for the originial AWB when it included the 10 year sunset. That is a point that I think should be approached when these individuals are being interviewed. Not a troll just a lurker Alan |

It only passed by TWO votes, and only after long arm twisting. PLUS, the Speaker held the vote open long after the clock had run out, while arms were twisted to get them to vote for the AWB. Just as soon as those two votes were cast, in order to keep anyone from changing their vote, the Speaker banged the gavel just as soon as those two votes rolled in. Remember, a LOT of Dems lost seats in the next election because of the AWB. The ONLY way they got it passed was with the sunset provision AND the grandfathering of existing firearms. There is no way it could have passed without sunset or grandfathering. And now we have 10 years of proof that it does not work. And it was editorialized that the real benefit of the AWB was "to desensitize the people to more and more gun control laws." |

To take a step further, why did AWB renewal supporters KILL the renewal in the Senate several months ago? I mean, against all odds they managed to get the AWB amended to a bill that had very broad support in Congress. Sure, the AWB would have been stripped off by the House, but at least the antis had a CHANCE if it got out of the Senate, and Chuck Schumer said that this bill would likely be their last opportunity to get an AWB passed. But, after adding the precious AWB renewal to the Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, they proceeded to vote the against the AWB-infected bill. Why? Yes, I know she and her buddies didn't like the underlying bill. But you mean to tell me that making sure people and local governments are allowed to sue the gun industry for the criminal acts of third parties (suits that very often are thrown out of court anyway) is more important than the thousands upon thousands of lives that will be lost starting September 13th? Despite Larry Craig pulling his support for the bill, those who voted for the AWB could have passed it if they wanted. I mean, this is the freakin' ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN! AK-47s and Uzis! And these guns will now be flooding the streets of our neighborhoods, all because Feinstein didn't rally behind the bill to which she attached her AWB. --Mike

They used the incremental approach. They portrayed a small section of guns as unneccessary, and for military use only. Divide and conquer was their method. They got what they thought would pass. Their next step was much worse. Past bills later proposed in the house and senate confirm this. They attached a denial of second amendment rights to a domestic violence issue. After all, who would come out in support of right of domestic abuse suspects, (mostly men) to possess a firearm they reasoned. They succeeded in getting a bill passed that denied second amendment rights to persons convicted of a misdemeanor. They intended to branch off from that and connect it to other misdemeanors such as simple battery, disorderly conduct, etc. until all misdemeanors would be included. They take every avenue they can find or manufacture. My main question is: WHY? I think we all know the answer. |
Bingo! They now have a whole generation of people that have had the term "Assault Weapon" pounded into their heads on a daily basis. That term has been perverted into being heard as "machine gun" by 90+% of the population. You've see the lies on a daily basis that now that the ban is gone, AK's and Uzi's will be "flooding the streets". NFA'34 doesn't mean a thing to 99.9% of the population. Hell, it doesn't register for 75% of gun onwers that think full auto is illegal. Now that they've conditioned the masses to accept an entire class of weapons as "evil" they think it will be easy to push us to the next level of demonization. The key will be to keep ANY new gun restrictions off the books for the next few years so they can't come back with the next step. |
