assault weapons bans in ban states usually refer to 'high capacity ammunition feeding devices'

would that mean that a stripper clip that can hold 60 rounds in it is illegal?

No, by itself it is not a 'ammunition feeding device.'

Unless there is some way to get it to sit in a rifle and operate, it's not part of the bans that I know. Now, this doesn't mean that some cop and judge in a place like New Jersey will decide that his new interpretation of the law makes it illegal, and I wouldn't want to spend the money to beat that case.  I've watched New Jersey judges make some rather amazing decisions regarding guns. They're happily and intentionally misinformed. Same goes for the other ban states.

You have to take into account the intent of the authors of the law.  Their intent was for you to die in a puddle of your own blood while their constituents pilfer through your pockets.  If  a 60 round stripper clip interferes with the intention of the law, then yes, you may be prosecuted.
